I went into IAD expecting to be obsessed with the Kanye tracks but I gotta say Pharrell edged Kanye out on this one tbh

Imagine looking at producers like Kanye, Madlib, Dilla... dead in the eyes and having the nerves to tell them "aight chill that's only a looped sample my boy"

Yeah him using the same drums on every beat of his was a bizarre choice on his part.

the fact that he’s used the same drums for like a year and a half is what bothered me

that heavy ass 808 is on brent pop smoke and summer walker album

I feel like it’s still early to make a fully informed decision on this right now just like it’s not time to fully declare an album great until a month after release.

Plenty of projects/songs I haven’t had move me until one day it clicks. FKA Twigs’ Magdalene was a big example for me, I just didn’t get it on first listen. Six months later it all clicked for me and I think it’s a fantastic album. That immediate opinion wasn’t informed enough.

Give this album a month before we decided which producer was the dominant one.

I have to say tho. I saw a lot of people counting Pharrell out before they listened to this project and I’m happy to see it’s been an almost universal consensus that his work on this has been a return to form.

Dilla thought highly of Kanye (and Madlib also). I think I that "devoted" not sharing this opinion might be superfluous

production all around wasn’t that exciting. this might be blasphemous but for my entire life I always thought pharrell was overrated. those cold synths and fake instruments get tired. always preferred kanye’s sampling.

facts, also one of the most interesting things about getting into production is the difference in approaches, nothings better than the other
