Some of these guys in their 60’s perform better than people 20 years younger. Streams don’t mean that much man. You just aren’t looking. I go to to these “dad” Rock shows. KISS fans dress up as them like and they’re 40+
Oh yea,I definitely understand the show/tour aspect a lot of these legacy bands live off of. That’s their bread and butter for sure,I can imagine a band like U2 still selling out stadiums overseas. What I’m saying is,most of that audience that goes to shows and what not, most likely don’t stream music like that, plus their old,so they won’t be here forever.
Add in the fact that almost all of the mega bands are mostly old people and you have to wonder, who’s gonna actually be here to stream our music (when we can’t tour, cause we’re dead)to where our families can get a nice royalty check? Imo,I think these bands have crunched the numbers and now,I think they see getting a ridiculous sum of money upfront is more viable to them in the long run.
This is crazy.. not the fact that they're trying to get 500m.. the fact 30% of the replies say that they're not worth it. The 30% are not real music fans. Y'all are culture vultures fr. It's disrespectful honestly. Wack ass cornballs
This song alone is more than $500 mill
In my top 5 songs ever made, prolly top 3
for a site that claims others are out of touch not thinking that pink floyd are worth 500 mil is funny
They’re worth 500 bil if we’re being honest
MJ’s estate only got 750 million for Mike’s 50% stake of the Sony catalog… and that entire catalog is 10x more valuable than Pink Floyd’s at minimum. Y’all get on here saying anything. 500 million for Pink Floyd anything is asinine.
Different times
MJ’s catalog easily gets 10 digits nowadays
These old rock bands realizing their days are numbered. Bands like Aerosmith,Pink Floyd etc will barely get listened to like that in the next gen, they want one big final payday before they bow out.
Bro they’re almost 80
They’re setting up their families before they pass away

some acts like pink floyd definitely have more cross generational appeal though

That’s what I’m saying, their getting the money now while they can. And in my opinion, their able to ask for $500 million and possibly get it because their music is worth way more then whatever streaming royalty they could ever get. The record are already sold, the name is already known,if these companies want to make money off this already established music, they need to pay a premium.

It’s possible, but I don’t think it’s enough to keep their generational wealth up for down the line when their kids kids, have kids.
I'm so sick of hearing about how great Pink Floyd is. They are overrated, overhyped, and their music is just boring. I don't understand how people can listen to them for hours on end and not get bored. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to "get" their music, but I doubt it. I think they're just a bunch of pretentious, overblown, self-indulgent hacks.
I will admit that they are talented musicians, but their music is just not interesting to me. It all sounds the same to me, like one long, drawn-out song. And don't even get me started on Roger Waters. He is the most arrogant, egotistical, and self-righteous person in the music industry, and I can't stand him.
I'm sure there are people out there who will disagree with me, and that's fine. I'm just tired of hearing about how great Pink Floyd is when, in my opinion, they're just a bunch of overrated, overhyped, boring, self-indulgent hacks.

I don’t have a an answer, time will tell. Appreciate the viewpoint, just thought I’d chime jn and I’ve seen U2 with my Mom (huge fan) so you couldn’t have used a better example
No way mid Floyd is worth 500M
Y’all put mid in front of everything
Y’all put mid in front of everything
Radiomid
The Midtles
The Mid Boys
Nine Inch Mid
Mid Division
and ofc
The Mid
do they not earn enough money from merchandising? i’m just curious as to why they’re selling their masters
Streaming bro. The value of music is super down rn. Who knows, maybe in a decade or 2, the actual "music" will regain some sort of value. Maybe the metaverse will help, with some new innovation
Think about it, as time goes on, less and less people will remember Pink Floyd, and everything else, it will basically live on by word of mouth
Pink Floyd slander itt

roger waters has totally earned the right to be a prick

They’ve been out for 50+ years
Multiple generations since the 70s have bought and listened to them
Why they just gonna stop now?

Roger Waters is a loser because he's a washed-up old rock star who is desperately clinging to his past glory. He's a has-been who is living off of the legacy of Pink Floyd, a band that he was a part of for less than half of its existence. He's an egomaniacal, self-righteous, self-important windbag who is more interested in promoting his own political agenda than making music. He's a talentless hack who has been coasting on the goodwill of Pink Floyd fans for years, and it's time for him to finally fade into obscurity.

Because their time has just passed. I’m not saying that most bands catalogs will end up like Elvis’s where his music has been incompatible with every generation since the 90s but,I don’t see enough people in the next generation playing Pink Floyd to the point where they actually see real money from streaming.
Also, those multiple generations that bought those records are the ones at the shows, growing old with these bands. Rock music is not a dominant force like it use to be in current pop culture. You have to think, when these bands die out, their fans will most likely die out too.
