i'll ask the same thing i always do when that point of "time" is made. rhetorically of course. is this the same staff that made the 2003 edition of the list? i'd assume not. times have changed, drastically. we have more knowledge and access than ever before. we're also, yes, more tolerant and open-minded than ever before. not necessarily qualities i'd deem as negative. so, if that's reflected in a music publication's random and ultimately inconsequential list, then it's like idk...so be it?
trust me, you'll find several people who would see no issue with the examples you've highlighted. we should all become more comfortable with differences in opinions.
Ok
It’s not the staff that made it in 2003, and the current staff has no ties to them anymore. But that’s part of the issue many have. They used to have an identity and integrity behind the publication. Now it’s just one of many homogenized publications.
It’s all been downhill since the purchase.
Yup
This list just screams "Look we dont hate women we SWEAR!" to me lol...weird vibes
I think they employ a lot of women…
Pinkerton is 100% a top 150 album of the 90s
I could see it not being in a top 50 or even top 100 though
Eh. It’s their best-sounding and most interesting record, but it’s not that great in the grand scheme of things, and I can see Pitchfork specifically passing on it since it’s pretty much just loser rock (not to mention the pedo undertones of “Across the Sea”).
Never forget pitchfork's extremely racist (now deleted) coltrane review from back in the day

100% disagree
White people already coming in here throwing the word “poptimism” as a subtle slur for seeing more Black musicians in spots they felt their cracker rockstars should have been.
Thread gonna be good lemme make sure to peep this again after work

sometimes you can be so open-minded that your brain falls out
but as you say, the list is ultimately inconsequential, and while the order of the albums is not how i would arrange them, all the canonical albums are represented within the 150 they picked, so i think it's not the end of the world that they have a few affirmative action rankings

that was another thought of mine. i just skimmed thru and was just glad to see certain albums included. the numbers to the left don't f***in matter lol 150 albums out of 10 whole years??? anything on the list is special in one way or another.
illmatic, heaven or las vegas, richard d james, liquid swords and in utero way too low
Songs is whatever...they put crazy in love number 1 back in 04. The old albums lists were huge for me getting into music as a kid tho and im just observing the changes and find it interesting and funny.

A top ten that was a little less Jacobin would probably be something like
1. Loveless
2. Nevermind
3. OK Computer
4. Crooked Rain
5. 36 Chambers
6. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
7. Illmatic
8. Homogenic
9. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
10. Laughing Stock
