I can give you some heart scales later this afternoon and as far as I know nah no downsides if performed correctly. For the most recent method posted itt, you can only crash your game if you miss a step which you can just start again from your last save. If you mean using the items themselves, then no there aren't any reported downsides.

but this game is great cause it’s just back to basics pokémon with no extra s*** or gimmicks going on
