Nah Greninja is definitely one of the most popular Pokemon. It's line even outsold Charizard and Pikachu during the XY merch run.

No it wasn't man lol. That year they did a poll with Google in several places and then combined them including corocoro comics and Japanese users on Japanese websites. Greninja is one of the most popular Pokemon ever. It was so popular it got its own personal form during sun and Moon. It was even going to be in Sword and Shield, but was cut late into development. Most hardcore fans don't even like Greninja because Ash-Greninja broke a meta.

To your second point Why wouldn't the average person know? Sword and Shield is currently the Fourth best selling Pokemon game in the franchise. Why wouldn't the average person know who those two are. Two of the most popular Gen 8 Pokemon.

Been playing the leak quite a bit and I’m having a good ass time with it. I’ll probably end up buying a copy. Granted I haven’t really played Pokémon since ‘02. So got no idea how similar or not it is to Sword & Shield or what the standards are for a 2022 Pokémon game. My only gripe really so far is them beginning tutorials drag like craaazy. Other then that and some booty dialogue the game play like a classic to me

That is the general population. That's more casual than anything. Do you not know what corocoro magazine is? Or who their main demographic is? No hardcore gamer is taking surveys for Pokemon dude. And again you ignored how Greninja and it's entire line outsell Pikachu and Charizard anytime they drop merch for it. The TCG also gives Greninja special treatment. Greninja is even broken in Pokemon Unite. You also ignored all the favorable treatment Greninja gets in games because Game Freak know its a popular Pokemon. I also like how you ignored Sword and Shield being the fourth best selling Pokemon game right behind Red and Blue, Gold and Silver, and Diamond and Pearl. It's also the 4th best selling switch game. There was also a movement on Twitter upset that Greninja didn't make it into Sword and Shield. So to think no one knows who Greninja is kinda absurd.

Like you don't even have to look far on videos why Greninja is popular.

Bro you have to remember Greninja was in smash so it's reach has moved beyond just Pokemon. I think a lot people forget that Greninja has been featured in a lot of non-pokemon games and was a popular choice in those games.
