Can someone help me understand if ZA is a proper mainline game?

Also is S/V worth buying for switch 2? For reference, the only pokemon games I’ve ever played are emerald and black. I enjoyed both at the time but I’m not sure how these games hold up these days lol

They are counting it as a mainline game but it deviates from the battle system of the other main series games. This is what they say about the battle system

In Pokémon Legends Z-A, the battles are different to the traditional battles. Here, the Pokémon will move around the field and can avoid attacks. Each attack will have a different range requiring your Pokémon to get up close or keep distance, and Pokémon can dodge moves

When a move is used, there is a cooldown on when it can be used again.

You also have the ability to switch your Pokémon in at will allowing for you to change up how you fare in the battle

Interesting, so I guess they’re phasing out turn based combat moving forward?

I doubt it. The turn based combat is what they use for the official competitive scene. The legends games are really just side projects where they try new stuff. They aren’t spin offs but they aren’t exactly the bread and butter 2 version games

No, not at all, that would be the dumbest thing they ever did because it would literally destroy the competitive scene which is massive. Legends has no competitive

These are like splintered mainline games made for the more casual but older fanbase that doesn't care about the hyper nerd s*** that goes with pokemon and just wanted the series to evolve in this direction/have been begging for it for 2 decades

Also, they are making an official battle sim to compete with pokemon showdown which should be out soon, it won't be comparable with legends in regards to how they work at all

Also legends is still turn based, but the strategic part is heavily watered down in order to give more action

Champions has potential to be the best s*** they’ve done in a long time. I’m actually more excited to hear about that during the direct than legends za

Proper isn't the right term if I'm assuming what you mean by the word

They are a "new" mainline series because the first was so successful. They see this is going to help them keep or bring back the older fans that are unhappy with what they do with the "normal" mainline games because they literally can't deviate to this extent in normal mainline games as they are completely bound by certain mechanics

A lot of people fall into being a part of both fanbase too, but they're basically saying they are aware people want this so they are working harder at appeasing this base

Its all a good thing, pokemon fans win in the end the most. I feel like we might be seeing a serious renaissance era of Pokemon begining with the switch 2 (esp including the battle sim)

    I'm so f***ing pumped

I'm working on making my first legit competitive team and I play through scarlet right now. I want to actually try the ladder once I get them all set right and beat the game. Its a trick room team which is a strat I always thought was cool (and the only way I beat pokerogue)

Barely know what I'm doing but I'm taking it as practice before the sim is out. I have a stupid amount of meta pokemon thanks to Go as well

I need to f*** around with some rentals on showdown though too lol

It's a mainline game, just not a traditional fight gyms mainline game.

Can certainly take some time to get a shiny to pop, even with a shiny encounter sandwich. Just keep at it and you'll eventually run into one. I'm on a Switch 2, and sometimes I'll find 3 shinies in a 10 min or I'll have to go through a few sandwiches before finding one in an outbreak with the Shiny Charm lol.

Doesn't help there's no shiny soune like in Legends Arceus and the lighting can work against you, so you may have just missed one on accident at some point during the hunt.

It was only on switch 2 I've tried lol. And there's a very specific spot you want to go for mudkip hunting, plus every video I saw people got at least 1 minimum on a switch 1

I didn't even realize I had to pay for research at first for them to spawn, but then I tried 2 times after that so idk what was up

I never had my sound up when I played Arceus I think lol. I only had a switch lite

If you don't have the shiny charm (and want to go hunt for shinies), definitely scoop that up. Definitely not too bad to get imo. I actually just went and tried to get a shiny Mudkip in that cave and ended up with three So if you want one, lmk and it's all yours.

Really do hope ZA has the shiny sound and stars again because I'm color blind so even the shiny Mudkips were looking the same as the regular ones lol. Also that hit of dopamine when you hear that sound in PLA
