The government has been focused on water issues for some time. In 2005, the Minister of Water Resources reportedly said the challenge facing China is “to fight for every drop of water or die.”

And again, they all have nukes.

Interesting... wonder why I haven’t heard much about this. Can’t see how this is gonna play out

Asking people who got bills to pay to strike, or risk forming a union and putting their lives at risk isn’t practical today.

Serfs and slaves took risks and made personal sacrifices too in their risks to gain more power as a class and eventually overthrow their respect class societies through direct action, what makes you think it would be any different for the working class?

So why not take advantage of the system that already exists to make change

    You can do both.

Russia had a population of 91 million people during the civil war. France had a population of about 30 million during their revolution. Both of these example people couldnt afforded bread. You think a country of over 300 million with plenty are ready to march on DC? I sure don’t

China had a population of 541 million people in 1949.....

Because in the western world they’ve shown no interest in toppling the capitalist system in any meaningful way

  • May 25, 2020

It’s highly unlikely there will be any revolution, and basically impossible that a socialist society would result from it

That's just factually incorrect lol, there are Western european countries that were at the brink of a succesful revolution several times throughout history in the 20th century.

I’m not talking about the 20th century, I’m talking about now. The working class (at least in America) supports republicans in manny cases over democrats, and even in Europe the farthest the people are actually willing to go is social democracy. The truth is even if some occupy Wall Street protest made it big, it’s unlikely it would’ve even resulted in a socialist country. Even within the left nobody can seem to agree with each other, and the largest elements of protest still largely support the use of market factors over planning

Okay well I was never arguing that there are a lot of well-organized large scale socialist movements in the West currently so idk why you're saying all this lol

I’m saying that people here don’t want a socialist revolution. You replied to a message where you were basically saying that large numbers wouldn’t stop America from having a revolution (which I actually agree with). But what I’m saying is that it doesn’t matter because the people here wouldn’t do a socialist revolution at all

Actually wait I responded to you talking about slaves and serfs fighting back, so the working class could to. But what I’m saying is that the working class is low key fine with their current exploitation as long as they have jobs and regular wages

I'm not saying that the American working class is going to revolt, I can't predict the future like that

I'm saying that in order to overthrow the current class system (capitalism), it would be necessary for individuals to take risks and make personal sacrifices as had happened in the past.

Saying you think this won't happen is not refuting my point and I don't think that it's worth arguing the likeliness of a revolution in the future in the US because none of us know.

Most of us know that people have and will need to take risks in order to actually change the system. The thing is most people don’t want to take those risks

Instead of pearl clutching you could've tried to argue in good faith and see that the comparison didn't go any further than that they're all class societies.

Every society in history is a class society, the difference is upward mobility and the ability to make a choice is a thing now. People aren’t born a factory a worker and their children die factory workers. People’s limps aren’t chopped off if they come from break late that’s a ridiculous comparison.

Social mobility is a myth. If you are born poor you will almost certainly die poor

Not every society in history was a class society, but regardless I think you understand that my point of view is that we should move past class society.

And I'm not comparing upwards mobility my guy, just the fact that they're class systems and that they were eventually overthrown. Stop acting like I'm saying that day-to-day life in Western societies is comparable to feudalism or slavery. If you have to put words in my mouth that just means you don't have a good argument.

It is literally reality that upward mobility is largely a myth. You're born poor you likely die poor. You're the one misrepresenting reality here
