I like that Luca did his own thing with it but I don’t think Possession can be remade in any way

It's a cult film with a title like a VOD horror movie. They could just make something inspired by it. The only reason to remake it is to crib the best s*** and do it worse the second time around

I couldn't care less for Zulawskis metaphor in that one (other than him portraying West Germany as a s*** hole ) but if a variation of it finds its way into a modern remake I will absolutely gouge my eyes with a spoon

That's the entire point of the movie. The characters embody these opposing forces that are unable to resist coming together and it drives them both mad and ends the world.

that is understood, I just generally dont care for any western directors commentary on stuff from that era

I think I loved the cinematography and music of the original more than I was actually invested in the story

The thing is, there's plenty of stuff in the story you could make a serious movie out of. The migrant experience, there's a labor dynamic, there's a class dynamic, folk horror as xenophobia, the exploitation of young women, institutionalized abuse. Luca just didn't do it.

Suspiria was mostly based on Argento's wife's grandma who told her scary stories about out of the ways girl's schools like this. It's just a stylish fairy tale and that rocks too

Yeah it's got plenty of style, and you make some very good points on what the film explored. I imagine it takes an inspired director to actually take all the stuff that was explored in the OG and make it work without actually turning the reboot into an unfocused mess.

Also my Possession hot take is the 81ish minute cut is superior to that 2 hour one
