I think alot of us forgot that in Pineapple Express seth rogan is dating a high schooler
Waiting for @Einfinet to weigh in first
@Einfinet weigh in, NOW
never seen dressed to kill so im just a spectator
you should watch it, it's incredible
the normalization and romanticism of cannibalism in finding nemo is something i still to this day can't look past.
you can look at the movie very simply as just a story about Jordan Belfort's life, which in that case there is no problem with it.
but, i do think the movie glorifies yuppie culture. Jordan does lose his family and goes to jail in the end of it, but most people I know who love the film just see Jordan as being a fkn beast who finessed his way into some good times and money and was boning margot robbie, and the only thing he got was a slap on the wrist. Again, this could just be showing how unserious our justice system treats white collar crimes, thus making it a reality. but i dont think that necessarily a good reality to advertise in a sense, nor do i think many took away that message, more so just that being a scummy stock trader is fkn sick!
thats more do the audiences fault for not understanding that Scorsese was not glorifying that lifestyle
Would Kids be a god choice?
That movie is the only one in my life i can say wholeheartedly i regret watching

I dont think the devil would either 💀
Just see it without somebody’s prompt
Let's ask @Einfinet since @HeyFella thinks he was so right about media literacy these days
I was just put off by the pathologizing of trans identity. I think the film folded itself into a context where it invites viewers to understand a correlation between the killer's violence and their confused sense of identity. I wouldn't really trust De Palma's relationship to that subject in general, and the execution was sleezy. Depictions of race were possibly questionable too but those details are hazy for me.
SO I agree with you on it being problematic but I'm unfortunately not invested enough to make a strong argument.
So the debate here is "Art can't be problematic" or films cant be problematic because its art? @HeyFella
Yeah cause I think it’s reactionary and gross, but modern media illiteracy combined with convenient “progressive” framing allows people to spew it without noticing. If anything is problematic it’s the implications of what ought to be done in response to art that doesn’t perfectly align with your sense of how the world ought to be reflected. It’s one of those topics that genuinely makes me angry.
But isn't that what you're doing? You're implying what ought to be done in response to the art aka "as an adult you should be able to adjust to the sensibilities of the material rather than cringing like an embarrassed kid looking around."
Would Kids be a god choice?

Kids is a film I refuse to watch

Tbh the trans identity thing is a little hazy for me. I do remember blacks portrayed as roving gangs of rapists. I do remember the film having rose tinted glasses for the police. I do remember the worst writing for a female character I've ever seen which made me think DePalma never actually bothered to have a conversation with a woman before (suspected he didn't have any sisters and wiki proved me right). Most one dimensional bimbo imaginable getting up to some ridiculous bullshit. Dude had a masterly touch on film directly before and after Dressed To Kill so it feels especially

Yea I remember the horrible writing for the main female character too. All of what you reference makes me feel less inclined to rewatch but I’m still open to his other stuff like femme fatale
Kids is a film I refuse to watch
its rough for sure. they even made a documentary about it recently
Haven't seen kids in a long long time but I dont remember it being problematic? More so very blunt on a realistic thing that happens: teens running around having unprotected s\*\*\*with other teens and getting aids
I definitely don't remember the movie glorifying it at all, s*** was depressing af.
