In recent years there’s been talks about prison abolition and reform. How the way prison currently is needs to change into real rehabilitation and what not? Some folks (like myself) agree with this. D*** offenses especially are bullshit 100% of the time.

BUT at the same time (as emotionally voiced in the Viper thread) I don’t necessarily feel that compassion for rapists, racists, pedophiles, and abusers amongst the likes. As I personally don’t think rehabilitation is possible for some folks.

And yea yea, hurt ppl hurt ppl. And we should address the source but at the same time, think it’s also cases of serial criminals where s*** is a lost cause and seeing one type of alternative fail (transformative justice) in sudden cases like Malcolm London of Chicago leave me disillusioned.

So, what do yall think?

Alternatives to prison should essentially be different types rehabilitation facilities/treatment centres (e.g. one for dv assailants, one for consistent shoplifters, one for dealers of serious d****, etc)

Actual prison should be reserved for rapists and first degree murderers

Imo we should legalize possession of most d**** for people who are of age or have special medical exemptions, and only licensed sellers can sell the d***, the only real exceptions being meth heroin and fent which should be flat out illegal, but even then reduce penalties for possession. We would have special prison units for d*** offenses, that means unlicensed people selling d**** or people who sell to minors. This would probably cut prison populations in half effectively

Could do the same for prostitution. Now illegal enterprise like gangs would have no easy way to make money which would further reduce prison culture and gang culture

I think that d**** like opiates and xans that are super addictive should be prescription only. Tbh I don't have much of a solution for that. I do believe if we had better jobs/wages that would fix a lot of the d*** addiction crisis

One of my best friends caught a d*** charge, once he got into the system he has never been the same, and has been in and out of prison for years. I know prison wasn’t the solution for him.

There needs to be decriminalization of all d*** related charges, minus the distribution of deadly d**** (fent, laced s***, etc). Send them to a rehab facility instead and help them heal. They’re all just broken.

Save prison for killers, hate crimes, rapists, etc. Once inside, there needs to be better ways to acclimate people back to society rather than just destroy their spirit. They’ll just re offend if they get out. In those events, they’ve just got to stay in for life.

It will never happen here though. People are too selfish to want to pay more taxes to help people they see as lesser than them. I get not wanting to pay more to help a convicted killer or rapist have a more comforted prison life, but ultimately, the fellow man will never change unless they have assistance to get there.

I would only be partially down with that whole taxes towards helping prisoners conditions be better IF the everyday person’s conditions was better.

Some of these prisons in Europe be looking more comfy than some niggas apartments in nyc, thats not a good look (on our front)
