Every time there's a new generation of rappers now they get described as punk

Not because there are any similarities to punk

But just because it sounds cool to say

    yes

    come on man lol

I’m at local punk shows like every week, it’s thriving here. tampa, orlando, miami, jax are all great, and then the better bands play up into atlanta and philly etc. insane energy, the diy venues get completely packed. it’s a proper scene

yea i wasn't really tryna be dismissive of scenes but ultimately i don't think these two things are a 1-in-1 comparison that should even be made in the first place due to the natures of both (grassroots/indie vs. internet/major label infrastructure)

    "punk is fashion and soundcloud"

nothing about any of these dudes is counterculture. being rap that isnt boombap isnt counterculture. you are describing mainstream pop punk.

people were calling waka punk in 2010 too

crazy how not a single one is sxe

Unironically think Waka and the early Chicago drill movement embodies the punk ethos more than any other rapper after

punks place in hip hop is still politically charged or at least similiar to punk/hc/metal

punk hip hop crossover already exists with some bands like soul glo, e town concrete, probably 70%+ of slam bands, zebrahead even and this isnt an exhaustive list. then you have your nascar aloes, zillakamis, etc

death grips was always closer than rappers rapping about doing d**** too

theres no reason these guys dont just make their own genre label instead of trying to water down one thats heavily active at the moment

to give you a really great example of a collab album/artist that is accepted in the punk world, check out HEALTH specifically Disco 4 1+2

this is just another cycle of people feeling insecure about their taste in music so they feel the need to dress it up in flowery labels like “punk” or “metal”, it’s no different how niggas were writing thinkpieces of how WLR was goth punk synth rap or whatever bullshit, just RYM schizo nonsense

ironically enough most rap fans actively look down on rock and any actual abrasive music like metal but that’s an entirely different conversation

my music is the new version of another genre even tho im using rap production and marketing/genre categorization

this s*** isn’t any different than when crackers try to argue Travis doesn’t make trap music

hip-hop and rap isn’t artsy enough so let’s grab other genres and terms to make it sound more interesting and deeper than it actually is
