Y’all can’t pretend like production these days doesn’t hit the same as it did back then

I don’t want to just turn this into a

    2015 appreciation thread

And admittedly, nostalgia is always difficult to distinguish from actual quality

But even so, I rarely find production as intricate as it was in 2015. . . And I wonder why that is

    Hell no

Disagree to an extent, especially if you go by the same rappers that op posted. Stop Trying be God by Trav & the Mariah Carey sample song by Drake etc.

I mean "intricate" production is usually rare to a degree even back then.

If youre talking mainstream, we still had the like of Fetty Wap, Waka Flocka, Tyga etc. Dj Mustard who beats are always really simple n very similar for the most part. Or Zaytoven who was "just" an arpeggio addict.

I would say "minimal" production comes from the likes of Dababy, Meg n the piano soul lanes tho, which they are popular.

i agree with this, time makes it easy to sift through the best of the best. its hard to make the call in situ a lot of the time

All Day was really the final Kanye single that didn't sound like complete ass

    competent rapping
vocals that weren't recorded with an iphone
perfect next level production front to back

    what happened

WLR’s production is a very cogent subversion to my initial point

And it does that, because it’s something new , something untapped

You better not tell anyone about 2015 if you want another year of bangers then

I mean look at Drake for example….how did this guy go from IYRTITL to CLB level of production? It’s almost embarrassing tbh

I mean it might not even be the beats itself but terrible mixing in general?

I don’t disagree, producers were just more hungry back then

We still have great beats today

    No doubt

I’m not denying the existence of great beats these days

Of course they are out there

But they seem few & far between sadly

TLOP was fire but still had that chaotic slapped together feeling that all kanyes music has now

All Day was the last joint that had the perfection from MBDTF and Yeezus vibes

    Hmm

    I disagree

But at the same time, very much see where you are coming from

Some of the production on Donda is superb

You guys really won’t be able to find albums from todays newer gen that can stack up to what OP’s been posting

Obviously they’ll have songs or two or three but these are ENTIRE ALBUMS that have totally fleshed out sounds and it’s something that’s severely lacking

i think that in the early 10's pop music was really influenced by the neo-psyche indie trends of the 2000's and mbdtf and yeezus, and 2015 was kind of the last year of that period. s*** like carti etc brought trends back to more radio ready single specific hits. just cycles i guess. we're like a year away from everyone loving burial again so i think it'll come back

love donda but I listen to the vocals on say Hurricane for example and wonder why tf it sounds like he recorded on a xbox 360 headset when weeknd and baby sound so crisp

Come to Life reminded me of that perfection kanye has though

  • Oct 10, 2021

Like Don Toliver and Baby Keem are on their third projects and you won’t find a single beat that can compete with something from the best of third projects like Rodeo or Take Care or TPAB or ALLA etc etc etc

That “peaked” s*** is lame, it was in a sweet spot back then for sure but there’s no reason it won’t find another in the future lmao

But I think it has to do with combination of laziness and how people listen to their music nowadays
