One thing they cut from the book is that in order to survive the induced coma during the trip you have to have like a special genetic trait, making it that much more difficult to find a replacement. Grace just so happens to have that trait

eridians put him in a coma and send him back to earth . There is something to be said that they took away his free will and the aliens gave him free will and changed the planet to his will . He always questioned if the world viewed him as disposable and Rocky was fully willing to die for him . Truth is she knows on earth humanity is doomed either way long term but wants to protect the delusions of adults and children a bit longer

I enjoyed the use of practical effects , sets and visuals . It’s a human story throughout. Humor is a little over used for me personally or didn’t land but audience was laughing throughout so cool. I saw people worry about explanation of the science when it does enough to get the basic gist without digging for plot holes . 3rd act kinds of dragged for me .

wasn’t really surprised that she forced him to go . Rocky nearly dying twice and still being alive not shocking either. They just played with stakes some . Ending was wholesome

no matter where he went he just wanted to teach the future and nerd out even if he has no kids or family of his own .

Will not be in my personal top movies of the year . Glad I saw with t mobile Tuesday imax sound visuals great . Hope others love it that it makes its budget back and success to gosling. Will look into what it does or doesn’t change from book
