it’s not that it’s just boring and narrow down it gets
ur question sounds oddly specific tho lol i like some spoonful love of buffalo springfield alright, i do got me a simon garfunkel disco boxset
maybe some few others idk i literally just woke up but to make it short anyway of the stuff i listen from that era are really either surf acts (so mostly instrumental stuff - a lot of them) or doowop/soul/motown acts (the temptations, supremes and a million others)
fishing to see what you think of The Byrds (specifically Gene Clark, their own little Brian) and The Beau Brummels (best mid 60's band "youve never heard of" )

yeah beau brummels are cool! byrds are fine, like i said with kinks im not big on the folk background/infused stuff and don’t get what’s amazing about beatlesing bob dylan songs ( that i believe they didn’t even make up themselves?) not that is all that the byrds is about, i heard the albums past the debut, but it’s just some question that stays on my mind

Yeah the kinks are like 25% folk but more influenced by Brit music Hall singalong stuff, especially after getting booted out of states. They were the first Brit invasion band that wasn't trying to sound as American as possible and ended up influencing the Beatles and Stones etc as much as anyone in that regard. So much of '66'-'67 sounded like it did because of the Kinks. '64 and '65 too really, but more cause of the way Dave revolutionized guitar on you Really Got Me.
Have you checked out the less folky more more baroque albums from the Byrds like Notorious Byrd Brothers? Rivals what Brian had going on.
How far with Beau Brummels?

are there any modern bands/artists making psychedelic rock/pop???
there's a lot of neo-psychedelia which is a different style im not quite as into. there are definitely some of the more "retro" bands but i havent heard many that i really like. some that kinda apply are King Gizzard, Ty Segall (sometimes), and Oh Sees but i feel like they are still very distinct from the og psych rock style
if youre into really really long acid rock guitar solos then this band is great
i plan on trying to find some good modern psych artists sometime soon tho
