Living in Houston has made me envious of those who live in walkable cities.

    @op the statement
“Public Transportation >> cars” is the equivalent to “you will own nothing and be happy”

a lot of this website would love if that were the case

It's also the equivalent to "you will waste a tenth of your life in traffic, live in a soulless urban sprawl of copypasted houses, pollute the world and put everybody at risk and you will enjoy it"

Gives you more money for a house/apt too so who owns nothing in the end cause you can't hold onto a car forever like you can with property

    especially in DC

Taking public transit in Toronto is a safety hazard honestly. Just bare f***ery all around.

unless you're super rich you're probably not owning in a major metropolitan area anyway

Houston and LA wayyyyy to big for foot culture to ever be a thing lol

As a result of being built around cars… it’s not impossible to begin actually building up the urban centers of these cities regardless

The material base influences the cultural superstructure more than the opposite

Creating more social environments creates a socially inclined population

Creating an alienating environment created an alienated people

Precisely, and sometimes I wonder if this was a conscious decision made by people who profit off alienation

People in the south prefer being spaced out. Not everybody wants to be bunched up into small ass living spaces.
People saying new york is well designed but paying 2500 a month for 400 sq feet

The same problems that prevent people from efficiently living in urban centers is the same problem that problem that prevents people from being afford to live in such spaces

And you’re generalizing the south, people love their community and want to partake in it no matter the place you live

  • Jan 27, 2022

    I’d rather walk mane

Public Transportation is valuable, overall it's a system of oppression. Everyone has the right to their own home, job, food and transportation is no different.

Plus, it's a waste of time. You're mostly losing 2 hours minimum (1hr per trip) for a comparative 18 minute drive (36 total).

Yea it's cleaner, safer etc. not gonna argue that but you do lose a lil bit of yourself on public transportation.

    How is it oppressive
