Public Transportation is valuable, overall it's a system of oppression. Everyone has the right to their own home, job, food and transportation is no different.

Plus, it's a waste of time. You're mostly losing 2 hours minimum (1hr per trip) for a comparative 18 minute drive (36 total).

Yea it's cleaner, safer etc. not gonna argue that but you do lose a lil bit of yourself on public transportation.

Even if you were to drastically improve America’s public transportation system the majority of people would still prefer to ride in their own car because it provides privacy, conveniency, and even a level a level of luxury.

American infrastructure was literally designed to be car dependent to drive car sales up

Its a shame if you had more average people taking it over the car alternative then there would be more exposure and crime would have to move elsewhere. Which would also encourage more money into the systems leading to a more comfortable experience

Stop saying "I need a car to do x, I can't do that with public transportation". Literally no one is saying to ban cars and that everyone should always use only public transportation 😭

Nah I’d rather be somewhere that I can know is clean and I control the environment within. When I was in college I took the bus on campus to classes and it’s so terrible, you gotta wait outside no matter the weather for it to come. Then everybody trying to squeeze awkwardly into spots. Same for train except less clean.

Maybe if public transportation was well funded it would be clean

I mean you would need more than just funding to get this done efficiently where everything is still moving.

It’s been done successfully in urban centers across the world

Imagine if America had a developed high speed rail system instead of airlines going to LA and back in 6 hours without stupid airport bullshit

Nah I've driven to LA that six hour drive on I5 is torturous

  • Jan 27, 2022

Every city needs a subway system like NYC

    Exactly

And then imagine an actually developed light rail system to supplant inner city metro systems imagije BART touching every corner of the bay (Marin, Vallejo, the 680 valleys, SJ) with developed muni-style bus tram systems through every town

    Would revitalize the entire bay

You aren’t saying ban cars at all. My mindset wasn’t thinking about banning cars either. More of a push towards mass carpooling ie self-driving carpooling. An Uber or Lyft type platform that only uses self driving electric cars.

Even for people that “own cars” they’ll be campaigns towards short leases and incentive based rentals.

Western Europe is definitely undergoing a massive public transportation revolution
The amount of pedestrianized streets/bike lanes/high-speed railways built in the last decade is mind-boggling
Future's looking good in this regard

Imagine all the trillions that we spent on war was instead used on infrastructure. This country could’ve been on some futuristic s*** smh

Search up Detroit before racially-based urban planning or Victorian Downtown Los Angeles for good examples
All these urban sprawl cities were actually walkable before the car industry took over and the government didn't want to spend money on infrastructure anymore
