Isn't the fact people do want to be bunched up the reason those apartments cost so much?

No its because those areas are overpopulated and ran out of space to build affordable housing

I live in London. Its cheaper for me to drive, I like cars too.

People wanting to leave there is a big part of why it's overpopulated, no?

There are different ways to conquer an enemy. The problem aren’t the vehicles. The problem is a lack of space, traffic directions, parking etc.

That’s your cities fault for planting multiple 4x12 concrete blocks of dirt rather opening up the road for traffic.

A ton of people are moving to Houston yet the cost of living has not skyrocketed in the same way. You can still buy a home in Houston for relatively cheap and find apartments for less than 1000

There are alotta cities, especially here in the US that are forcibly making the city life cramped by turning 2 lane roads into 1 lane roads.

We don't need new roads for traffic.

The neighborhoods like the one I posted have big and small stores, restaurants, gyms, banks, schools, etc. People just walk.

US city planning prioritizing cars over walking is one of the causes for high obesity I'd reckon

This city was built with minor vehicles in mind. My city however is downsizing to emulate this. As much as I value city development, the politics, lies and racketeering that gets to this point is evil. The whole sustainability doctrine is a fad. Trust me I love this stuff and admire it but the bad outweighs the good.

Transitioning away from car centric infrastructure isn’t the same as outright banning cars man

  • Jan 28, 2022

Rt tbh. Add in lime scooters and bikes too.

Cars are a lot of work n $

This is assuming ur in and wanna stay in the city though

This is just a waste of space

All the color you see is car parking

Imagine it being developed into apartments, mixed use, cultural centers, schools, the whole lot

We don't need to imagine, we just need to look in the past

Detroit before car-centric culture and racial urban planning. Most of what was demolished consisted of the majority of Detroit's black community

Facts and not facts simultaneously. Very context dependent.

I live in a super small city. Traffic is very rarely rough. You can get through majority of the city in under 10-15 minutes driving. Public transit takes significantly longer to get places. If I rode the bus from where I currently live to the mall it would take me about 30-40 mins. There is a trail I can walk that would get me there in 20. Moped would be about 3 mins, car would be about 10 because of traffic.

With that being said. Long public transit rides to just vibe >>> as a kid it was fun to do it local, as an adult I would only do it out of town.

So because the city was built primarily around motor traffic, it’s more efficient to drive around right?

What if it was built to accommodate foot traffic before motor traffic?

I have no problem walking places tbh. I would probably prefer that.safety is the main factor in that regard and as of right now streets ain’t safe round here lol

    What about... walking?

If somewhere you want food from is even 3 miles away you aren’t walking 6 miles total for a single meal

  • Jan 28, 2022

agreed, more opportunities to get these fits off.

  • Jan 28, 2022

    Absolutely

    • Waste of time: Traffic Jams
    • More Dangerous: more humans operating cars = more human error
    • Waste of Space: 54 people in one bus vs 40 cars
    • Waste of Resources: 40 cars vs one bus, electric rail etc
    • Death of social interaction: Traveling alone vs interactive foot traffic
    • Waste of Money: Gas, Maintenance, Insurance, Prices

Obviously cars are necessary for traveling outside of well populated areas or living in those areas but well designed transportations can beat any roadway system in towns and cities

You selfish need of a private space while you go to work (??????) or an aesthetically pleasing luxury good is not as important as the overall positive effect of not having cars pollute and greedily hog space in our limited world

Even for travelling outside of cities, public transport is still better
High speed rail is so good in countries that have incorporated it in large quantities(Western Europe for example)that it actually bankrupt the national airlines in Italy
