    Ayo hol up son what?

Your last paragraph kinda leaving a sour note when I feel like…idk a lot of people are rightfully saying child stars (of any medium) shouldn’t exist in the 1st place.

Like, the entertainment industry and what it involves contradicts with child psychology (had a few courses in college) and imo, shouldn’t have ever existed in the 1st place. But we born and programmed into thinking it's fine (I’m with @captainmurphy that it aint just Nickelodeon. I been giving Disney the side eye for a minute lol.)

Second, with all due respect and i mean with ALL due respect to your situation do NOT project your fears of people “hoping that amanda was molested” on ME or most of us of all people.

People harassing old Nickelodeon stars are dumb and those people need to be lobotomized but finding things said about Amanda and Dan’s relationship off putting is a normal reaction (and a reason why it was put on was to show the way the adults that ran Nickelodeon didn’t really treat these kids like…kids. Even if we wanna say Dan didnt do anything are YOU as a potential parent cool with dan in a hot tub with your 15-16 year old daughter?)

Rhetorical question. At best dan guilty for being way too close to a CHILD then what shoulda be allowable. I dont think that is some goddamn hot take or a “sick fantasy” that people are putting on Amanda dawg. Cool it.

Like the fact the doc aint even talk about the other female kid actresses that was forced to kiss older actors is also a huge red flag about dan. Come on bro.

well like i said before, talking about the f***ed up stuff that was in the shows (the hot tub scene; the Ariana skits) that DS/Nick put on the tv/internet for the world to see for 20 years is fair game and an integral part of the conversation. that type of s*** is imprinted in the minds of generations of kids and needs to be talked about

but the “yea he def did something to her” comments or the “this MUST be why she’s crazy today” stuff i see everywhere else when she hasn’t spoken on her experience… like, how does this help Amanda or anyone else???

i mean, it’s not as bad as the disgusting and easily-debunked conspiracy theory about Schneider being Jamie Lynn Spears’ baby daddy that comes up often in these types of convos, but the speculation on which actresses were raped or molested by him is weird and unnecessary. it’s not really any of our business until they come out and say so. the stuff that we know for a fact went down on Dan Schneider’s shows is horrible enough and there’s already a lot to talk about there

i don’t think it’s a result of people having “sick fantasies” necessarily. i think there is real sympathy for these child stars for the most part. but it also feels like it’s gossip fodder to some or folks wanting to feel extra vindicated, which is why you get people making up the rumors i mentioned or accusing those who are silent as being part of the problem. it retraumatizes and shows a lack of respect for the actors that goes against the reasons why we are all upset in the first place

in regards to the convo about children no longer being used in media, i’m torn on what the solution is. like you said, being a child star is fundamentally wrong for children from a psychological standpoint. but i feel like that’s primarily because of the fame factor and industry politics

i do believe that with the right policies set in place and a crew of people who actually care, healthy set environments can be created. it’s been said before, but hiring on-set therapists to be there for the kids the same way the on-set teachers are would be a great place to start.

there are some child actors who have said great things about their own set environments. the kids from Harry Potter always say the director and crew created a very safe atmosphere for them by vetting their parents, pushing back against them being overworked, and just generally being patient w them during the long shooting days (not that those kids didn’t have their own traumas in the industry but the issues they did have seemed to be due to fame itself, not feeling unsafe in their work environment). but unfortunately, not everybody’s a Chris Columbus

one of my favorite shows is Abbott Elementary. i can never help but to be curious about what the environment is like for the kids on that show. if it’s a good one, i’m sure that’s more due to Quinta and the EPs wanting to set a good tone as opposed to anybody at Disney or WB forcing them to

i’m so f***ing cynical about this topic tho so i feel like this doc is going to be completely ignored in the long run. it’s like how the public discourse around the MeToo movement made everyone feel like the industry was getting better while the same bullshit was still going on and now that the hype from that has died down, it’s getting worse again

things might get slightly better for kids but truthfully, i don’t think the heads of Nick or any of these corporations will give a damn about long-term change. i think it’ll always be up to the showrunners, crew members and parents to determine the kind of environment they want to set for the child actors bc the execs sure as hell won’t hold them accountable, unless they start losing money. i really hope i’m wrong and i want things to get better, but i’m too jaded about all of it atp

maybe AI truly is the best course of resolution. the industry is so obsessed with using it to replace actors. they might as well start w the kids but even that could bring about its own problems…

    sigh

The third episode about Drake and his dad is the saddest s***. That's a father who was hip to the bullshit early and everybody turned on him and made him look like the bad guy. Just for him to have been right the whole time.

He was tryna protect his son and they didn't let him

    Felt terrible for Drakes dad

Man she's better off not saying anything for being a terrible parent.

Can’t take more episodes of this

Drake didn’t deserve any of this. No kid does. No person does

  • Mar 27, 2024

Ngl drake might have been the number 2 nick actor in the early - mid 00’s so for it to happen to him and that directors reaction when he found out it happen to a kid on set was pretty damming.

as much as i could, yeah

i’m disappointed in Will and Rider and they still owe Drake an apology but i do have sympathy for their teenage selves. it’s gotta suck to look back on time you spent at a young age w someone like that, not knowing how they really are.
