can't even appreciate the music anymore. everytime someone drop it's gonna be "this is better than x album" or "nah y did it better this s*** ass" after like 45 minutes. it's all head to head comparisons and lists instead of counting the individual quality. i appreciate that s*** remains competitive but it's really encouraging rappers to release rushed overdone s*** to remain in the conversation. and then when actual time is put into a project the criticism is "they're trying too hard"
social media is really warping the perception of what counts in music
I was just thinking this except for music in general. People treat this like it’s football or something
You mean the discussion of rap treats it like a sport. The genre isn’t actually like a sport
I mean...there's always been that element in rap.
There's tons of forums and podcasts that a***yze the music and give props to artists but the competitive s*** obviously gets more "trending topics" and attention.

Log off the site. I don’t be on here much, but it seems like you give too much f***s about the convos anyway

This has literally been going on since hip-hop started. Battle rap, flexing money and top spots is so integrated with the culture this isn't anything new.
Its basic science that competition breeds creativity. Rappers and all artists need someone to compete with to be motivated to improve otherwise the genre would be stagnant

Nah I feel what @op saying to a certain extent. Niggas like Drake really be moving like it’s a sport making music for the wins and trophies instead of coming with something truly inspired. It ain’t just the fans.

CLB is a good album

Drake was the only artist that never resorted to bundles in that whole era. Drake is a bad example because he even pulled from the c***awards shows so this is so far from the truth about him. He doesn't chase validation he's just cool with making music he enjoys and letting people fw it

It's growing on me the first half is great but everything after NFITI is a f***ing banger

I’m talking about deliberately crafting his albums/singles to chart and break streaming records
That’s the musical equivalent of stat padding
Imagine not enjoying the charts and numbers more than the music itself
