Nah I feel what @op saying to a certain extent. Niggas like Drake really be moving like it’s a sport making music for the wins and trophies instead of coming with something truly inspired. It ain’t just the fans.

Dawg, the hip hop is a sport narrative existed in hip hop before Drake. Where you think him (and his peers) got that from?

Hip hop is the only genre where it’s considered a sport.

I ain’t say he was the only one but he’s the biggest example in modern rap

Hov was like that in the late 90s and 2000 but for the most part he shifted gears after Blueprint

I’m really not seeing it. Feel like that argument is working backwards, like it’s implying because he’s gotten W’s and trophies means he’s making music for that. It sounds like the Kendrick critic bait argument lol.

Not at all lol. Last album I feel like he really had a focused vision for was TC. One of the greatest albums of all time imo. NWTS and IYRTL were great too and he def had a inspired vision on those. Everything that followed has been good but it’s just comes off real playlisty. Like he just makes songs until he has enough to pick from to call it an album or mixtape or whatever he wants to call it. Really no noticeable difference between the two nowadays. He knows if he put 20 plus tracks on a project he goin break wild streaming records. It’s blatantly intentional imo but to each his own.

Edit: and it’s also obvious that post views he tries really hard to cater to each of his fan bases that way everyone who listens will at least have a handful of songs they like weather they in the rap crowd, trap crowd, rnb crowd, pop crowd etc. this is likely to ensure that the widest demographic of people streams each project.

From a business perspective I get it and I can’t knock his hustle but from a creative perspective what happens when you do that is you end up forcing songs together on the same project that are from completely different universes sonically and your albums loose all sense of direction. Perfect example is get along better followed by You only live twice. Wtf bro. Kids these days have no sense of what a cohesive body of work sounds like because of s*** like that lol. That’s why everything he drop sound like a mixtape. Everyone likes it, he breaks record and he’s on to the next one. If I’m wrong when’s the last time a Drake album felt special to you?

What makes it Drake influenced? Because it was commercially successful?

That album is definitely structured nothing like a modern Drake release. Name one song on there that’s Drake influenced
