Not at all lol. Last album I feel like he really had a focused vision for was TC. One of the greatest albums of all time imo. NWTS and IYRTL were great too and he def had a inspired vision on those. Everything that followed has been good but it’s just comes off real playlisty. Like he just makes songs until he has enough to pick from to call it an album or mixtape or whatever he wants to call it. Really no noticeable difference between the two nowadays. He knows if he put 20 plus tracks on a project he goin break wild streaming records. It’s blatantly intentional imo but to each his own.

Edit: and it’s also obvious that post views he tries really hard to cater to each of his fan bases that way everyone who listens will at least have a handful of songs they like weather they in the rap crowd, trap crowd, rnb crowd, pop crowd etc. this is likely to ensure that the widest demographic of people streams each project.

From a business perspective I get it and I can’t knock his hustle but from a creative perspective what happens when you do that is you end up forcing songs together on the same project that are from completely different universes sonically and your albums loose all sense of direction. Perfect example is get along better followed by You only live twice. Wtf bro. Kids these days have no sense of what a cohesive body of work sounds like because of s*** like that lol. That’s why everything he drop sound like a mixtape. Everyone likes it, he breaks record and he’s on to the next one. If I’m wrong when’s the last time a Drake album felt special to you?

Tbh this discussion could go on all day.

My point is, we can’t point the finger at the biggest guy for acting how hip hop has always acted. The hip hop is sport mindset did not originate with Drake, and hip hop head ass niggas always argue that it’s been like that since the beginning. It’s only easier to use him as the example simple because he’s the biggest, when his peers treat it that way too.

Tbh I never liked the idea of considering it a sport to begin with cus like I said earlier hip hop is the only one that does it

His peers definitely do do it like Future Thug Baby even modern Kanye but he’s the leader of the culture so I pretty much look at him as the artist that sets the tone for the state of the genre so I use him as an example

Don’t know if you caught my edit in my previous post but I expounded on what I meant a little more

Because it changed the music lol

This ain’t bc of social media tho it kinda dates back to Pac but Pac was actually making socially impactful music so it’s not the same as niggas doing it just bc you dominate Billboard or whatever. 50 is kinda the bridge between Pac doing it and the current climate and of course Drake built his whole latter part of his career off of success being his subject matter

Nah I feel what @op saying to a certain extent. Niggas like Drake really be moving like it’s a sport making music for the wins and trophies instead of coming with something truly inspired. It ain’t just the fans.

    Yep

You mean the discussion of rap treats it like a sport. The genre isn’t actually like a sport

and ktt is part of the problem

Ok bet that was how many years ago? Six or Seven?

Some of y’all s*** on Kendrick for disappearing for 5 years but won’t admit that Drake has been on autopilot creatively for much longer. Not a stan of either just my perspective.

I think the problem is that if you actually made a post doing art criticism as the OP- nobody would engage with it.

But if you just say something inflammatory, even the people who disagree with it will engage with it. Maybe more than people who agree with it even.
