swear Eazy and them were underrated as a trio/label post NWA. Ruthless

need to dig more into it, still haven’t listened to eazys solo stuff?
Not really rare but The D.O.C is underrated and under appreciated today
yeah that first album is classic. shame his voice was f***ed because it makes a majority of his later stuff unlistenable. did u ever hear his helter skelter album? its basically a collection of the raps he wrote for dre for the unreleased ice cube and dr dre collab album under the same name but adjusted a lot of the lyrics to fit him. Dre was pissed off. I remember reading an interview around the time he just left death row and he was going in on DOC for it.

he continued after his vocals accident?

yeah he had a couple of projects. Shame because I could see a lot of his music getting pushed and doing farely well if his voice was there. He actually didn't rap much on this album. got other people to do so. Such a shame because he had a really strong rapping voice before the accident.

there is a version of this with dre, lady of rage and 2pac. I remember a story of pac destroying the reel in the studio once dre left and the entire no diggity/toss it up situation happened lol. doubt thats true tho.
rbx very underrated tho.

speaking of ice cube you listen much to his solo stuff? feel like every once in a while i check out new stuff he put out it’s incredibly corny and dad s***, it’s pretty off putting knowing how incredible of a writer and street he was when he came out when you look back
his solo stuff is super fun tbh
i know the dre diss which still sounds SO fire, who even produced that if it aint dre?

i keep hearing about dre flops before 2001, which i assume this and i believe “the firm”are what is referred to as, at least by dre himself and his crew, but then i keep reading they’re underrated 🤔
oof this hard

Yeah cube got classics.his first two projects are for sure and that kill at will ep is good. The Predator & Lethal Injection are nice. some tracks im not big on but some classic songs for sure. then everything after that is just hit or miss with me. this is when cube started to do his best pac impression with his vocal inflections (its fair game considering how much pac took from cube on his first couple albums). this is around the start of the westcoast connection era (he was also clout chasing the f*** out that east/west fued for his own gain but thats another story). that first westcoast connection album fire tho. then theres those war and peace albums....ehhh. still some solid tracks here and there but he's past his prime at that point
so tldr peep the first couple albums and dont expect much after that but he for sure still has his moments.

love reading all that, makes me wanna dive all the way into it g, thank you will definitely start with the first and go on! idk i think the other day i slipped onto a track he did with his son ? prod sounded super 2009ish, track called something girl wouldn’t make it by herself or something, thought the prod was kinda ice actually with the synths but cube was so out of place
no disrespect tho, dude a pioneer either way and the fact he was so young when he did all those classics blows my mind to this day, im sure im missin out

tbh his 2 2000s albums after the War/Peace s***s aren't that bad. Inconsistent but they do have some classic tunes
Love me some "smoke some weed", "gangsta rap made me do it", "do ya thang", "go to church", "why we thugs" etc..
