I've heard stories of beastie boys programming some drum tracks here and there and LL having song ideas thought out and rick would just program for him but as far as artists that pride themselves as both producer and rapper EPMD beats Dre by a year

im probably forgetting some notable names

never heard of world class wreckin crew?

Of course. Dre has production credits but I've heard lonzo was the main producer of the group and I wouldn't say Dre would pride himself as a rapper in the group off a couple songs he rapped on. Wcrc was more DJ and dancing beats with some bullshit rap bridges here and there

    Lol who told you this?

what part? WCWC production wasn't solo dre production by any means and they were an electronic group that would incorporate rapping that was never the main focus. Dre was a DJ first, producer second and a vocal performer last. We are taking about people that prided themselves as rappers and producers in hip hop. Dre was not priding himself a rapper at this time at all lol. it was just part of the showmanship

Also im not saying EPMD is the first hip hop act to produce there own music just the first to be established rappers that would also established producers in hip hop that were serious and taken serious in both crafts. Schooly D made his own beats but outside of programming a drum track no one took him serious as a "producer".
