his early work aside from Epidemic is very different from his later work. The Tarkovsky influence is far stronger and it's just visually more impressive from a very atmospheric perspective. Even then he was extremely playful and imo even more so. His Dogme style overall placed restrictions to his talent that didn't always work out.
Not to say his later work isn't good but I jsut prefer the visual splendor of Europa or The Element of Crime. The Kingdom is somewhere in between stylistically.
