this is the era of everyone who got a voice can get a bag off their music and im here for it, let niggas eat. it was annoying as hell growing up and only hearing the same s*** on the radio everyday all day, even if it is nostalgic. this how i know you niggas are like 14 when you make these threads and don't fully understand how much the world and industry has changed

    Trey’s most pop IMO

You Just Need Me or Blind prolly his most pop but it wasn't like the wave Breezy, Usher or Ne-Yo was on at the time

If abel and frank are rnb then so are tame impala, the xx and james blake

lol imagine dying on this hill

frank has CO which is traditional R&B with some electronic s***.

the xx and tame impala had a few rnb songs (currents especially) while they are known for their psychedelic s***. weeknd is still inherently r&b, he just moved away from it, but not entirely making throwback pop stuff. james blake is basically rnb so idk why you are even arguing that, what is he then?

I never said you had to have a strong voice to be an r&b artist, but you have to be able to sing. We arent talking trap music here lol.

Going along with the trends of popular music is the definition of going pop

I meant going along w the trends of what other rnb acts are doing. If that’s pop than 8701 and confessions are also pop because that was the rnb sound of the time since that sound is what ginuine tank all the 90s early 2000s acts we’re doing

  • Daveacee9

I remember the top r&b niggas

    Frank
    Weeknd
    Miguel

Kept telling people they weren’t r&b. Because they wanted to appeal to the white crowd that also killed r&b

Ehh I would disagree with Miguel's first two albums. After that...yea I agree

    Read what I said

Bryson is not more r&b than BBTM/Starboy/MDM easily

    abel isn’t r&b

trilogy snd kissland are dark wave

BBTM literally has production from one of the most successful pop producers. you can tell max martin is all over that record. it’s a f***ing pop record

name one r&b song on starboy h&m music bro, the lead singles are more electronic than anything they’re LITERALLY PRODUCED BY DAFT F***ING PUNK

MDM is the closest to r&b but even then it still has more dark wave and electronic influence than anything else.

you don’t know what you’re talking about bro bryson tiller is infinitely more r&b than abel and that’s fine.

these threads are meaningless bro go enjoy music

the era of super mega stars is over, we’re just never gonna get that global domination again. drake might be the last english speaking musician to be on that timing.

the future, everybody gonna be focused in their niche for their to be mega stars. the ppl who will come the closest tbh is probably your reggaeton / latin artists. they’re gonna be the ones with the real star power

idk why people don’t get this. you don’t have to tune in to radio or mtv to hear music. now that people dictate what gets put on top, not labels, it’s been a revolving door of artists who blow up and then lose popularity. i don’t really see this changing anytime soon...

people think it’s a reflection on the quality of music, but the truth is it’s a reflection on our own limited attention spans in the modern era.

    what’s that FACTS????

Current trends in rnb ARE that rap singing s***, also I could easily cherry pick opposite examples if I wanted to say right my wrongs vs in the night

I can pick a bunch of Weeknd songs that are rnb from his last 4 albums. I just picked the top 2 Bryson Tiller songs

    Chris Brown can’t be stopped

'Come Together' would've been huge if he had pushed it as a single. Such an underrated track

    Ooo

    Currents : Psychedelic pop disco R&B synth-pop

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/TameImpala/comments/enqd4b/google_play_music_says_the_genre_of_currents_is/

Wtf does this mean I literally said “ It’s a dead genre in and of itself

It’s only good when mixed with electronic, hip hop, pop, trap, alternative etc then it becomes the greatest and most interesting genre imo

But pure traditional rnb? Been dust for a while now”

I know currents is an rnb influenced record i love it but that doesn’t make f***ing tame impala an rnb artist or the weeknd or frank or the xx or future or Tyler or lorde or the million other artists who incorporate it

So yes pure rnb (her, sza, bryson, brent) and so on is a dead genre and has been for a minute now

The lyrical content of today just don’t hit me hard tbh. You’re right about emphasis on instruments on too. It’s different sounds for a different era

I agree with that. There ain’t a mf one wish or a differences, or rain, or all my life, or even just friends type

It’s a lot more grimy you got songs like savage anthem and after hours
