There's some great subreddits out there. The mental health ones have helped me out so much, same with personal finance and stuff like that. P*** subreddits are nice too.

Those mainstream subreddits that everyone views are the trash you're probably indulging in. Just unfollow them and follow the ones you care about.

I think it's WAY better than Twitter, if you wanna talk about hive mind go view that app.

Yea but twitter doesn't have a voting system that causes good faith posts to fall on death ears

s*** its no worse than twitter where every woke ex-tumblr person gets 50K likes for saying stupid s***

really I only lurk reddit for a some updates on stuff, im not all in the comments n s***

Likes/retweets are a million times worse than a upvote/downvoted system.

  • It still depends on which subreddit tbh

anything with a like button suffers from this problem

Nah downvotes are used as a way to censor and devalue a point, the closet thing is twitter "ratioing" people but the downvote system allows people to make an opinion at a glance before forming their own.

It's like if twitter or ig had a dislike button

ratioing accomplishes the same thing imo

average moron sees the opinion he likes with thousands of likes and the dissenter getting ratio'd to hell, reinforces the echo chamber the same way that downvoting someone does

the only real difference is that reddit allows negative scores, but i've personally never not-opened a score-hidden post

reddit doesn't really work now because it's become too popular imo

If the sub has grown to >10000 subscribers, its soon time to leave it

Once the app and the new reddit layout came out, that was the beginning of the end for me

This is very specific but If you're from a first world country with "progressive" policies , your country's subreddit will be full of Americans with little to no knowledge on the country whatsoever (Besides romanticised views) who want to immigrate. It's the most annoying s*** ever.

Twitter is worse. An upvote/downvote system is toxic but at least reddit doesn't actively make it challenging to write or read something of substance. Twitter encourages s*** takes and spam by virtue of its character limit.

  • Aug 20, 2020

Positives is that Reddit is more intelligent than twitter. And it's very good for news updates on the things you like and to ask questions. Other than that it's crap and the posters can be very self conscious. Twitter on the other hand is filled with dumb and superficial takes. Ktt might just be the best social media platform actually

It's even more hilarious if it's Australia because they're oblivious to the toxicity of Australian Politics, Rupert Murdoch and how many Prime Ministers you've had in the past decade.

In r/NZ we just have to contend with delusional Americans who think we are a "liberal utopia" and a obsession with LOTR and Queenstown.
