I don't understand people who say V was mid while praising GTA IV. Have you played IV in a while? V is vastly superior if I just, like, mess around for ten minutes. The world is better. The missions are better. Free yourself from the idea that the technical limitations of the time means that "gritty" is better.
It's style over substance
Except GTA IV had style and substance...GTA V isn't mid by any means/I can admit I'm more biased towards GTA IV (hell I like GTA Online more than I did V), but like...food water and atmosphere
This isn't even cool anymore imo. They see that V is still a cash cow because ADHD autistic ass tik tok gen kids keep buying shark cards and are more addicted than ever to absolute cancer like paying for virtual property and 30 flying vehicles they can troll whole lobbies with.
And of course those same idiots will pay like $150 for a deluxe preorder edition as soon as it's available.
Yes gameplay wise, V is mostly better with movement and s***. But the shooting/ragdoll physics in GTA IV were more satisfying and fun, the story was WAY better and the characters were better written. Also IV had a palpable dark, dirty criminal element to it. You felt like you were in an underworld f***ing with sociopaths. GTA V story was very cartoony. And Lester was annoying as s***. Idk.
Yup. The shooting and ragdolls after Max Payne 3 have been pretty regressive imo.

Shooting feels like s*** on IV compared to V IMO
All the guns feel heavy, and while I can understand this appeal in the sense of realism, it doesn’t feel good in an shooter which was historically more arcadey
RDR2 and GTAIV have incredibly good stories
What makes IV so good? Haven't played it in over a decade but from what I remember, it's a typical "Do missions for these zany characters until one of them betrays you and you have to kill them at the end" GTA plot
I feel like people forget just how annoying characters like Roman, Brucie and Jacob (jafakin' accent) were and the plot gets more credit than it actually deserves because it's darker in tone than the others

its kinda the only serious GTA in the whole series. It wasnt as much of a parody as the other games were (there are some parody moments in there)
Out of all the GTA's its the least cartoonish and actually did highlight that technological/social shift that happened in the late 2000's.
Not too many games or media in general was able to capture that. When it comes to gameplay mechanics, it was a whole new engine so it was a bit clunky, but that gave it a level a realism that even GTA V didnt have.
Id buy a ps3 just to play it again.

It was the first of its kind. They sorta refined it with Max Payne 3 which led into 5.
Rockstar is good at cartoonish characters and scenarios—but every time they try to be "serious" it all sounds like very bland pastiche. It's like I'm reading the script of the most immature film school student of the class. Red Dead II being the most obvious example. If it were a movie, it would be rightfully ridiculed for being hollow derivative art.

Idk man. Tarantino basically does the same thing Rockstar does with the inspiration/references and his work is praised
Also RDR2 was like the worst example you could've used
Damn this wild. I know Rockstar style at this point but I didn't think they would go the entire year without showing nothing after that trailer lol. All I can think of is how much progress was made since then. Also knowing the game is probably playable from beginning to end at this point is exciting. Also crazy thinking about the voice actors, who have lives outside of working on the game. Must be so irritating and weird to go hang with friends and family, or just to the grocery store knowing they are the voice actors for the biggest upcoming game ever and can't say nothing. What an amazing gig to land man

Thank God I'm not having this level of brain rot

Id say it's more hollow and derivative in GTA (5 in particular) where you can tell they just bit a couple of movies hard as f*** and then didn't know where to take it after that. Red Dead was good but honestly can see where you're coming from, not like they didn't do the same thing for that narrative too
I'm imagining that you're referring to things like "Arthur is the most modern socially aware cowboy to ever walk the earth"

Since when does little Jacob of all characters have a jafakin accent. What the f*** am I reading
Game is a f***ing classic dude, story is crazy
back when Rockstar made the stories elevate past the influences
Had a truly believable, at least in a "noir crime thriller" sense, plot, loved the development from coming fresh off the boat to dealing with undercover feds, pent houses, bank heists, etc. can really feel the progression in the severity of the crimes you take part in. Not for nothing, characters are complex, have their own situations lives and families, and they could die too!! Idk it was great!
Makes GTA v plot look like an adult swim pilot by comparison
