aight.
some lawyers are lowkey working in the label's favour so its not as easy as finding a lawyer
It’s not really lowkey — it’s like here’s your contract.. and we’ll also provide you with a lawyer who represents OUR best interest to consult with. If you don’t have the ability to see why this could f*** you.. a sucker is born every minute.
Literally have witnessed this (2:55):

!https://youtu.be/wMHsojpGV5o?t=175Why would you ever take an in house lawyer lol thats like taking an appointed
Of course theyre working for them at the end of the day, thats why youre suppose to go get your own if able or in the situation

You can ask an lawyer out of city etc. for consulting
It doesnt have to be literally down the street

It is misleading (in the way I’ve seen it done) in that they have built a rapport up with you to this point, they become super buddy-buddy with you, then will position it as.. oh we have a lawyer for you to refer to if you need one. They know in many of these cases these kids have never retained a lawyer.. finding a lawyer with expertise in this specific area isn’t exactly as easy as finding a real estate lawyer for example and that’s not to mention the expense of it all. And they know all of this. So obviously, it’s a bit coercive.. but I’ve seen this happen to people with so much street sense and they still get taken by all of the courting leading up to the deal that they just go with it.
Can't be cosigning her getting 16% on every dollar she makes. That's a robbery.
what is the average? doesnt sound crazy if youre signed to 2 labels
i would guess industry average is somewhere around 20% (completely made up numbber)
lmao every label contract for an undiscovered artist is terrible. you'd be surprised at what your favorite artists signed when they were desperate for an opportunity. like Meek just tweeted out that he makes $0 off of music.. Most female artists are in the 360 too, because they get lots of opportunities for things like modeling, acting, perfume deals. its a dog eat dog industry. you have to sign that horrible deal and just hope your success can last a couple years and you're able re-up under better terms or go independent.
Meek lying like f*** just to try to get out of MMG

60k is not life changing lmao
This is mad convenient to come out right before her album drops
Numbers seem pretty standard especially if a record label is taking you from cleaning houses to the top new black female R&B act lol
There’s a reason why this article dropped now lol
now youre on to something

It is easy to find a lawyer in this specifics. I mean they dont have to be an expert or even super experienced in the industry, but as long as they know terms & "legal language" they can still tell you overall what theyre getting at. They may not be able to help you further, but its good enough to just check it over to get the jist for a simple consultation before signing. Im not saying you have to hire them permanently.
But yeah, i agree, but that goes with anything someone isnt familiar with. Really nothing you can do there, but people trying to be artosts should at least have basic knowledge (easier said than done i know), especially if theyre coming from the street they should treat the s*** like a court case, which you wouldnt trust the court lawyer nor the workers.
I do agree tho, just that the people suggesting theres "nothing you can do" in a way is false. Most lawyers consultate for 500 to 2000 dollars (some are even free if you want just the basics) from my own experience, you dont have to permanently hire them, & you can pick "anyone" you want in the field. You just have to sought it out, research n compare.
this is why we see so many plants
labels pump them up with promo because if any of them are successful they reap enormous rewards
no different from 'pump and dump' stocks
and of course the general public doesn't know any better - they buy into anything trending
