Just forget it happened immediately instead of a week from now. Can’t believe this is still what gets everyone going. Work on yourself.
That’s not the point tho. This journalist is very likely not racist but the media is portraying him as that. It’s obvious he used that image as a reaction. His livelihood is at risk and he’s probably receiving death threats. “Should have known better” isn’t an excuse to ruin this guys life.
He definitely shouldn’t be receiving death threats, but I don’t think there’s an issue with him being perceived as racist when he did a blatantly racist thing. There’s no way as a journalist in 2023 you aren’t aware that using a monkey to respond to something about a black person will get taken as racism. He probably knew but just didn’t care or didn’t think that the backlash would be this big, like @Chipdiz1 said
The journalist deserves this, all of Rolling Stone needs to burn

And how does acting holier than thou do anything exactly?
Nah he do look like a monkey tho racism aside
opening registration really was a mistake
what were you thinking @S

that person has threads dating back to 2020 lol
As a journalist in 2023, you should be very well aware that using anything involving a monkey, ape, gorilla, etc. in reference to a black person will immediately be seen as racism. There’s no excuse for that
He definitely knew what he was doing. His excuse of it being a “surprised monkey” doesn’t even make sense because it doesn’t even look surprised. It didn’t make sense as a reaction

It’s not obvious at all. In a reaction context it makes no sense and it’s not even “surprised” as he claimed
If it were obvious then more people would be on your side

When I first saw it I honestly thought he was using it to make fun of Abel’s appearance
When I first saw it I honestly thought he was using it to make fun of Abel’s appearance
Yeah I kind of had the same feeling
If I’m going to shoot the writer any bail, I kind of felt like he was making fun of how Abel was styled for the show or something, rather than outright being racist but he still had to know and might have just been straight up racist too
Screenshotted before they delete it...
Lmao, it looks like Verne Troyer (RIP Michigan legend)
It’s pretty clearly a reaction photo but twitter is where people go to give the least charitable interpretation of something for outrage impressions

What does the reaction mean, I don’t get the reaction
He said surprised but it doesn’t look surprised
I just think it’s very disrespectful you would stoop this low and compare me to a Frenchman (I think?)

That speck of s*** shouldnt even have the privilege to have the name Thomas. Every Thomas I know are sweet dudes.

Bro, f*** Rolling Stone, but no way someone actually thinks he's calling the Weeknd a monkey.

We gotta give probs to Abel he's more than 10 years into his career and this is his first s***storm lmao
