The point I got from the film is that the mob life in the end is a bad way to live...sure you can get money and "respect"...but you can also get killed over some complete bullshit (the guy who told someone he'd be going in to the feds but it didn't get relayed to the right guys so he got clipped for it), can never really trust anyone, and even if you're lucky enough to not get whacked or end up in prison you'll probably just end up a sick, grumpy old man like everyone else still hanging on to your glory days to make yourself feel better
watching the car scene the first time didn't click for me as much as the 2nd time...the "fish" smell, Frank refusing to sit in front (probably still uneasy and thinking Sallie might just clip everyone in the car), hugging Jimmy to put him at ease
also there's a video where Stephen Graham (Tony Pro) breaks down both those scenes with Pachino...long story short he got to improvise quite a bit...when he smacks the tray away from Hoffa in prison that legit surprised Pachino...Frank's "12 and a half" line when they're arguing about how long a person should wait for someone was also improvised as Stephen wanted have dialogue with DeNiro as well rather than have him just sitting there
People in the 50’s thinks unions are good for you because of benefits and protection
Yeah that’s why we hve the biggest wage disparity of all time and the miminum wage hasn’t changed in a decade because unions have gone away in most jobs
Had been binging Sopranos before the movie came out. Went on a mafia binge after watching the movie, Casino and Goodfellas and tons of interviews and documentaries on YouTube.

Had my attention the whole time
I Usually have 2 break long movies down
imagine complaining about runtime of a film?
It's mostly twitter crowd who is complaining and, as we all know, they're special species, to put it mildly.

He wanted to sit in the backseat because he knew Hoffa would have to sit in the backseat and he wanted to be close to him
I didn’t get it either, but on my third rewatch it finally clicked. Frank is actually symbolic of Marty and him killing Hoffa is him realising that cinema, real cinema is dead. Frank being involved in the hit is Marty doing his part in killing real cinema. Buffalino and the mob represent the theme parks Marty has been harping on about. The breakdown in Frank’s relationship with his kids is actually Marty’s deteriorating relationship with real cinephiles, many of which populate this section.
I believe the final act with Frank refusing to fully confess his sins is Marty in real life knowing, but refusing to confess that he has made the same gangster film 4-5 times and he has been a hypocrite all along.
My 2cents!
Lmao this was good
My God... what a movie.
Ending had me in tears.
SPOILER
Seeing Frank degrade as a senior was absolutely gut wrenching. The emotional toll of having killed one of his best friends must’ve been devastating.

Just finished sopranos.. good follow up watch here, I’m guessing huh

If you are hungry for more mafia entertainment, yes :)
Nah unfortunately he's got dementia last I heard, not in the best shape these days sadly, not able to remember lines etc.

Should’ve given him a small role in the nursing home at the end, and just let him and DeNiro improvise two old guys shooting the s***.
Just heartbreaking how in the end Frank attempts to find some semblance of redemption for himself through faith, but it’s just too late. It’s a futile effort and he knows it, but he’s willing to try anything at that point
