This was fine. I wish the two leads were in a better film. the transformation trump goes through in this and his relationship with cohn felt rushed, but stan and Jeremy make it a worthwhile experience.
I liked it, mostly for the performances tbh. Strong has to get that best supporting actor nom
Stan did good with Trump’s mannerisms but vocally he sounded like Jerry Seinfeld lol. Still a good performance
This was pretty good tbh, didnt like the obvious references to the present tho made me roll my eyes during some scenes. Lead actor and Strong had great performances.
I did think it would have more funny moments tho im ngl. Only time that had me lirl was when his wife called him bald and he absolutely lost it, but that only lasted for 5 seconds till I was like

Was pretty dope to see the Trumpisms become more pronounced as the film went on
I think Stan did a great job tbh, I'm a huge Jeremy Strong fan but Stan outshined him in this one

Yeah I don’t want to undermine Stan’s performance he did really good it was just the voice that was off. If I’m honest my little knowledge of Cohn is probably what makes me more impressed by Strong cause I have no idea if he did the role justice or not compared to Trump who’s everywhere
Really loved the first half and then it took a nose dive the 2nd half and rushed through everything.
Wish the entire movie was focused on the first half of just Donald and Roy.
Or better yet a better movie would be of Roy ruthlessly winning his cases with Trump as a cameo as one of his clients

agreed. the focus should've been more on Roy Cohn. Jeremy Strong is firing on all cylinders as him
Agree with the sentiment in this thread!
This is a performance movie more than anything, and Jeremy delivers, but Sebastian steals the show, finding layers to Trump I didn’t even know existed. Oscar noms are in order.
Too much wink wink foreshadowing to the future tho. The “on the nose” moments get in the way of what should have been a more lowkey villain origin story. Many elements of this movie are underplayed to great effect, but the script didn’t quite commit to the bit. Also, the focus is lost in the second half when the narrative struggles to find a place for Roy.
Still, this is a far more interesting biopic than most, and quite chilling in the wake of recent events.
Great movie. I would say a definite best picture contender. Everyone killed it. 2 hours absolutely flew by. Strong and Stan snapped on this
Reading about the films development it looks like pta and eastwood both declined to direct out of retribution. Im glad they didn't because this director delivered
