And as for separating the art from the artist I can't when people like B.O.B think the Earth is flat and Kanye supports MAGA and Trump. That's disappointing to me when I listen to their stuff. If you can do that cool but you can't expect everyone else can
I just wonder what the cancel culture ppl want at the end
Being an artist is a job like others, if you don't want a woman beater to be an artist then is it okay if he was a plumber? What's the difference? And if that aint okay too then wth do you want them to do, die of hunger in the streets and let their fam starve since you don't want them to make a living?
I think its up to people to listen to who they want, just like its up to the label to deal with allegations as they wish.
Sony had every right to drop Octavian.
We all make our own choices, if you dont want to listen to Carti because Iggy said hes a bad father. Great!
But does cancel culture have the right to remove art from Spotify on those bases, or demand that artists are "phased out of the industry"?
The article argues this is where the line is crossed.
Censorship has its place in society, but not in art.

..
at the end of the day personally I just take serious heinous acts and cancel artists if I don't really rate their music like that
If your music bumps, then you still in my rotation after the cases. If not, then I cant possibly in all conscience f*** with a nigga that did the harm that you did I gotta support the victim ✊🏾
this is a stupid hill to die on
"cancel culture" doesnt even mean your r kelly types who are convicted s***pests and whatever. Harvey Weinstein getting sent to prison and being wiped from the industry is not 'cancel culture'
it's always been used to describe takedowns of individuals who are either not guilty altogether or being accused of some ridiculously minor offence (decade old tweets, telling someone to f*** off etc.)
Don't think OP or the article actually knows what they are trying to discuss and defend.
At the end of the day you can preach some moral code of separating art from the artist but if you push up to most people talking about how good R Kelly is don't be surprised when they think you're a weird c***
