I just don’t see it. As far as a rapper I’ll give credit where credit is due but what leaps of faith or steps towards progression has he really taken to make the leap from top rapper to an artist
being the goat
When they use the term "artist" in GOAT debates, it's usually about who makes the best bodies of work (Albums).
You can be a mid or bad rapper in terms of pure rapping skill but greater at making albums than a lot of highly skilled rappers.
You can be a pure emcee/traditional rapper (all you do is write lyrics) and still be a better artist than an artsy experimental rapper if you know how to put together better projects.
This. Maybe they should say “lyricist” instead of “rapper”? Being good at coming up with rhymes definitely doesn’t always translate into art that a bunch of people are going to f*** with but at the same time those rappers deserve to be acknowledged for the talent they do possess even if they’re not doing crazy numbers.
let's not seperate it at all and acknowledge HOVA as one of the greatest to ever do it rapper or artist
being the goat
That’s stupid and makes the argument even worse. He’s the “goat” rapper not the “goat” artist
im an old head who actually listens to hip hop for the lyrics and can answer any hip hop question ama.

I agree with this.
Hip Hop tends to use the terms "lyricist" and "rapper" kinda interchangeably but I'd be cool with making them distinct to where lyricist is all about rhyming/writing skill

Very close 2nd. Nas the goat for me. "drunk by myself" is high art
I've always hated this conversation, it always leads to downgrading and putting rappers in the wrong category just because they focus on lyrics.
rappers vs artist isn't the best term but it's essentially bars vs overall music quality, and that's a totally valid discussion to have
That’s stupid and makes the argument even worse. He’s the “goat” rapper not the “goat” artist
both
One is better at rapping.
The other can make a better song.
Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

Artist can mean a lot of things, you probably thinkin artist like Kanye that expands and try all these other sounds and styles.
But someone like Jay who is well known for putting very coherent projects/songs out makes him an artist too. Like when you hear his albums it all fits in together and not just a bunch of random songs that are just him rapping his ass off
Like there’s something he’s tryna put out there, as an artist

Hopsin is a better rapper than Travis Scott but Travis makes the better music
Literally just took a dump on dudes entire premise of his thread. You HATE to see it
Ya’ll just fans of pop if you believe in separating the term
Lol what is your basis. Literally just tryna stir s*** up off some dumb s***
