In the wake of WLR Ive been thinking about this more and more. Opinions aside, a lot of people Id say are torn between hailing the album for Cartis exploration or grilling it for not being Die Lit 2.

I also have seen artists like Nav get grilled for always rapping the same way and creating the same type of music. Is there really an issue with making the same kind of music as long as it bangs?

So I ask: is it better to constantly change and evolve your sound, or to strike gold with a particular sound and hone it?

Is the best experimental album better than the best “traditional” album

I can respect trying to be experimental and failing more than making the same album 5 times in a row and everyone eating it up

Bro whatever sounds good and satisfying

i probably enjoy great Experimental music more because there’s novelty and excitement in defying convention

But i’d be lying if i said my top albums reflected that

experimenting for the sake of experimenting isnt the way to go imo, just do what sounds good to you as an artist and sometimes it will end up being experimental

I always commend artists for going a new path instead of treading the same s*** every time, but certain artists are just better at keeping at their own sound.

The problem is when those certain artists are not able to evolve at all, and then their fans get bored of their music, leading to their income drying up.

At the end of the day, it's up to the artist to decide what they wanna do. It's their music, it's their decision what to do with their career and art.

Music is supposed to move you or come from what moves you, treating it like a business choice is antithetical imo. If you wanna experiment, do that. If you wanna keep doing what you like, do that. F*** a career path

Oh of course. Im more speaking from a consumption standpoint as a listener and not a maker. Like do you appreciate music that is 100% what it is or music that is wildly different than previous albums
