Smt V would perform way better on switch than any other console, switch is a jrpg system that got a niche series like f***ing xenoblade chronicles to sell 1 million+ copies. Plus, its developed in unreal engine so it would look as good as mario odyssey probably, and dont forget its developed with the switch capabilities in mind, so im not worried about its performance and quality. With that being said, im not sure they'll put p5 on switch at this point

I personally think it would do way better on a PS system

I disagree, switch is the biggest console in japan by far and jrpgs sell the most in japan since its the main thing they play. There's reason dragon quest, the best selling and most iconic game behind pokemon in japan had the definitive edition as a timed exclusive on the switch

Thats cool but the only big jrpg in the west is final fantasy with persona 5 being the most recent successful jrpg, and persona 5 was the 6th persona game, a PlayStation exclusive. Smt IV which is the best selling smt game is a nintendo exclusive. We should consider the entire world but when most sales come from japan when we're talking about jrpgs you cant ignore the east, especially since a lot of jrpgs dont make it to the west until much later cause its a niche genre here. Like i said tho id like it if both platforms got it

I hope smt V sells as much or close to the copies persona 5 sold so more people can enjoy the series on different platforms, im the last to defend third party exclusives

I think DQ performed well here in the west.

I also expect the SMT to see a + in western interest because of the Persona series. Not enough to warrant a buying a new system though.

Worldwide I think it would be in their best interest if it was on a PS system.

Hitting that number will be tough.

The hero being in smash played a big part in marketing for the game, also out of 5.5 million sales 1.5 million at best come from the west, which is great and im happy but ultimately means that its bigger in japan, a way smaller demographic.
About the second part, i want to believe that but idk, not many know persona is a smt spinoff, its all on Nintendo and atlus to market it well to make consumers make that connection.
I think nintendo's fanbase is more inclined to play jrpg games than sony's, since final fantasy 7 became an action rpg to make it more appealing

Yeah its unrealistic unless nintendo does everything they can to market it cause atlus sure as hell wont. Also smt doesnt have the anime s*** persona has so its less appealing in general. Judging by MC's design they might try a more anime approach tho

There are just too many BIG jrpg’s NOT on the switch for me to go down that road.

Persona 5, FFVII Remake, Yakuza 7(Also on Xbox), Trails Of Cold Steel games, , In terms of home consoles DQ 11 was on ps first, the utawaruerumono franchise, Until Firia the Atelier series was only on PS in homes, Tales of series games, etc....I could really go on and on.

Fire Emblem, Xenoblade & Octopach are all cool but the above games I list worldwide have more influence. Switch is a nice JRPG machine. I think you’re underselling the relationship between PS/JRPG’s & Playstation consumers. Idk that I would agree that Nintendo consumers are more inclined to play jrpgs. The PS has consistently been the home for jrpgs going back to the ps1

  • Jan 5, 2021

The Playstation has always catered to JRPG fans. Even when others weren’t.

Hopefully SMTV finds it way to the 4 or 5

Yakuza 7 is a multi platform tho, trials of cold steel is a niche series, dq was developed on 3ds since the switch didnt exist thats why ps4 is the only home console its on, i can see atelier series but its a niche series outside of japan and now they're on switch too.
Fire emblem three houses is bigger than all you've listed but ff7 remake and we havent gotten FE sales for this financial year yet, xenoblade 1 & 2 on switch sold more than 3.3 million copies, with 1 reaching 1.34 million and xenbolade 2 2 million+, octopath sold 2 million (mentioned sales to prove switch owners support jrpgs A LOT). Also tales of series has been on 3ds and vesperia is on switch, although the older releases arent yet so i can give you that. Also switch is way more successful than gamecube, n64 and wii u ever were, PlayStation was selling more and that's why it had all those series, now that the switch is successful many jrpgs are coming to Nintendo consoles too.
Ps4 got some great jrpgs but i feel they would sell more on a switch, just the fact bravely default II is being heavily anticipated kinda shows it, you think ps4 users would share that same anticipation for a game like bravely default II?

  • Jan 5, 2021

Also @World1 i see where you coming from ps4 got the best catalogue for jrpgs but too many of them are niche and the only ones who made it out are persona 5, ff and yakuza 7 (mainly cause of the previous entries which are not and definitely played a part on marketing).
If switch released alongside the ps4 instead of the failing wii u the situation would've been a little different imo

Yakuza is Multi Plat but it isn’t on Switch was my point. Too many of the top JRPGs are not on the system.

Also, niche series or not — Sony/PS has catered to their fans of the genre. They have for a long time. They’ve showed a willingness to have Big time Jrpgs & niche titles + everything in between.

Ok but my point was that smt would sell more on the switch than on the ps4 and if we go by the numbers that seems to be the case since most if not all swith jrpg exclusives have hit the one million mark. With sony being more western focused now i think nintendo is gonna try to get more of these niche jrpgs since their main demographic by far is japan. I agree with you ps4 is the best console for jrpgs right now, with the new 3ds being a close second
EDIT: answering to the post above

Well you based your whole point on whether or not ps consumers are inclined to play jrpgs more/less than Switch users....

....if we’re talking about numbers. The Nocturne remaster sold like 3.5k more switch versions than PS4 versions first week ranking 2nd & 3rd. Again, I think SMT:V would perform better on the PS4/5 worldwide.

    We agree to disagree.

Many of the games you listed were PlayStation exclusives and havent hit a million copies despite the huge install base. Many of the games i listed were nintendo exclusives and have hit a million copies with a huge and as of now inferior install base.
Also yes, you proved smt nocturne on switch sold more copies than the ps4 version

So now you’re being a clown. You’re gonna try to compare niche series that were used as examples of PS wide range of catering to the JRPG genre over the years to compare sales 😂 — Then you tried to twist what I said about the biggest JRPGs not being on the SWITCH(Minus Pokemon)— never said exclusive. I said they weren’t on the switch. I can’t make Monster Hunter: World, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Persona 5 Royal, Yakuza VII, etc...I can’t make them appear on the NSW. I named several jrpgs that were on PS/XB. How you took it exclusive is beyond me.

Furthermore, I proved it marginally outsold the ps4 copies in the area you said it would perform best. Where more people are playing switches right?....yeah? If your whole argument is that it’ll sell a few thousand more copies then

But the fact is the place you said it’ll perform the best it was barely better. When it’s released worldwide what do you expect? Lol
