You know what, i felt the same a year ago, that they would lean more into a more social defined smt game, but after seeing the various trailers and the previews, im confident they're not trying to pander to persona fans by altering the spirit of the franchise.
The only things they're doing are adding an easier difficulty for newcomers and overall a better presentation in terms of budget and scope compared to smt IV and apocalypse (and also choosing a more conventional anime aesthetic when designing some of the key characters), and all of these dont necessarily harm the tone smt games go for. Ive seen more comparisons to nocturne than persona 5 for this game so that makes it clear to me.
What im most worried about is actually persona. Will persona 6 be a safe persona 5: 2 with different characters or an evolution of a stellar jrpg that could potentially risk losing some of its fanbase?
I think about that last question a lot. With P5 being such a hit I don’t doubt that they’ll want to hold onto some of those elements in the future.
But if SMTV has shown us anything, it’s that they aren’t just going to homogenize their releases in an effort to sell 5M every time. While ATLUS can be pretty backwards when it comes to communication, they seem to have a profound understanding of why their franchises appeal to so many people. And now, they seem ready to broaden that appeal without losing sight of what makes their games unique.
I don’t expect that they’ll go the Ubisoft route of transforming all of their prestige IPs into safe, homogenous, mostly unremarkable games just to maximize profits. Those SMTV previews alleviated my concerns in that sense

100% agree with everything you've said
I have seen some details of SMT V (not everything i think), but im really curious about alignment and what are they going to do with it
I just hope that they dont do something like Apocalypse tho, i prefer when every decision matters a little and ur route is decided by ur whole adventure and not by a final option

as long as it's not as ridiculous as getting smt iv's neutral ending, i'm good

actually impressive as hell
damn, looks like shoji meguro is leaving atlus to be an indie game writer
still gonna be composing music for their games though

Him going independent means he could potentially do music for other games too
Imagine if persona lost meguro forever damn series would be done. Happy for him being free and doing what he wants tho, gonna look into his indie game when it comes out

good on him that he's chasing his dreams while still doing stuff with atlus. can't wait to hear his music for re:fantasy
The VA for Koshimizu did an interview with a YouTuber, dude is genuinely such a character I was interested all the way through, excited to hear more of him

Its so frustrating that persona fans want smt to be persona so bad when there is no need. Persona and smt are two different franchises with only few similarities, why should smt try to be persona when persona already exists just judge the game for what it is not what it isnt ffs. Imagine someone getting into mario with mario kart 8 and when reviewing mario odyssey saying that Mario odyssey should've had rideable karts and Blue shells
Honestly from playing SMT the last few months, the only similarity I see between Persona and SMT is that the monsters are the same lmao. Besides that they both go down their own roads. Idk what this reviewer was talking about and this coming from a HUGE persona stan. imo it's like comparing 2D Super Mario world/Bros games to the 3D Mario games.
As a big Persona fan, I can't wait from SMT V.
