Starting to reach the point where I’m getting a lil burnt out but I’m at the home stretch in the final area
Already put in over 60 hours and I’ve enjoyed the game a lot so far. Imma try to power through to the ending these next couple days.
One thought that kept entering my mind as I played tho: man I wish this was a more powerful console. I play 90% handheld and the texture pop in, frame rates sometimes, it’s just sad. Why can’t Nintendo just make a powerful console for once in their lives
Facts, i’m waiting for Ps4/5 or PC version
Started Soul Hackers today (the 3ds version)
Started interesting but ngl tho, the older smt games can be a little tough to warm up (i hate the Magnetite thing )
But i hope playing this helps me so i can go back to If, 1 and 2
Just finished up SMT4, had a lot of fun with it since core smt gameplay is so solid, but the neutral ending is terrible the forced side quests are some of the most egregious padding I’ve ever seen and the game sucks your d*** waaay too hard for doing em
This might be one of my fav games now (SMTV), def my fav goty of 2021 at least.
Really enjoyed it, had a week of basically nothing n blasted through most of it during that. Clocked out round eighty something hours iirc. Thank God I had a break.
I did everything main & side except finish the main dlc final boss, couldnt do it lol even with the mitama boost (which i didnt even touch except for shiva & trying to do that) but will probably try a cheese tactic in the future.
Other than that tho its great, very doable & challenging. Really cool characters, dope story & i love the mishmash of every religion & myth existing & being true (its a concept that has always really appealed to me).
Awesome game & im very picky about my JRPGs. Might finally pick up Persona V Royal now, now that this gave me the confidence in it & to a degree being similar.
Loved the collecting & fusion mechanic the most. The only thing i really disliked (outside of Shiva & the major main DLC boss being basically unbeatable without the mitama boosting) is the moon mechanic in this one. I only played one other SMT so long ago, but the moon mechanic didnt seem that useful or even used nowhere near that much as the other titles. It seemed like it was only an annoyance to waste time trying to recruit while being half baked only kept as a legacy feature.
But again, overall awesome! Would give it a 9 to 9.5 out of 10 of i had to rate it, would recommend.

Heard SMT4 is the lowest one of the series. Havent played it but heard it has some cool things going for it but has ridiculous dumb & tedious stuff that ruin it.
Glad i passed on it & waited for SMTV.

Oh and the in-depth platforming was a huge & dope surprise!
Its basically a 3D platformer game with turn based combat, its awesome & was genuinely good in this along with the exploration (which the exploration is also some of the best in a video game period).
Felt so much better & immersive than the usual linear dungeon traversal.

you’ll be able to absolutely destroy persona 5 after playing this glad you liked it, I’m still not finished but when alls said and done it might dethrone nocturne as my favourite

between the modern mainline titles of 3-5, the 4 duology does seem to be the black sheep. i havent started 4A yet - i hear that compared to 4 the gameplay is better but the story is cringe - and seems to me that people love to single that one out as the worst smt game.
if you loved demon fusions though u might get a lot outta smt4, one of the best features is that you can save and fuse demons anywhere instead of fixed locations, and there are way more demons than even smt5 - almost twice as many.

definitely give P5R a shot at the very least. the combat is similar and the collecting/fusing of demons are core parts of Persona as well

How its a pseudo sequel to nocturne is super dope as well!

Thats awesome i didnt know there was that many in it
I will probably check it out now since its cheaper & the only other modern one readily available
One other thing i forgot is that the music is f***ing amazing in this too
Love the Cadavers Hollow & the 2nd area's first ost especially
Fantastic game

If you want similar vibes for Persona you definitely have to play 2 at some point. It’s a more traditional rpg and doesn’t have any of the sim aspects of 3-5 but has one of the best stories ever and lots of demon interactions similar to smt

SMT4 is such a great game but they dropped the ball hard on that
I was lucky because i already was going to do every sidequest so it wasnt that much work, but even worse is the point system to get there with the forced decisions that added so much to the aligments. Like to get the neutral ending you really cant play neutral, you need to focus on one aligment and then on the big decisions choose the other one
still prefer that tho to how they did it with Apocalypse and i think V, that aligment is focused on one decision
Also recommend u to give 4:A a try, the hate for it its really unfounded (smt fans that hate Persona, so they hate on this too because the story has some Persona vibes). The story has its problems but its not as bad as people say it is. Gameplay is top notch tho, the best gameplay in the series imo (havent played V tho)

Imma say that even if some people think its the worst of the modern SMT (3 to 5), even the worst smt is a 8.5 game
Imo its better than Nocturne

i already got 4A downloaded on my 3DS, definitely intend to play it at some point - its why i tried going neutral for 4 because i knew 4A was branching off from there. luckily for me though i didnt need extensive use of a guide to get neutral, i was trying to lean towards chaos as my backup but kept getting pushed towards law for some reason so it just kinda happened. if id known neutral was so trash though maybe i woulda tried a little harder for chaos lol.
as far as story goes, im not too turned off by it - smt5 is my favorite one and the story there is pretty terrible too so even if 4A ends up being worse it cant be by too much. improved gameplay from smt4 already got my attention since 4's gameplay was so nice (aside from smirking, which i heard got fixed in 4A anyways)

like you mentioned, i personally think a lot of it is just the "elitist" smt fans hating anything that is remotely "persona", and 4a definitely leans in that direction. not dismissing any criticisms with that or anything, but man, the smt fanbase is pretty awful sometimes
in terms of favorites of the mainline games, 4a > 5 > 4 > 3
still gotta get around to finishing sjr lol

Yeah the elite smt fans that hate anything Persona are awful
Also feel that smt is such a consistent franchise that when something (for example 4a story) is a little different or below expectations, people start focusing too much on that when tbh its a lot better when compared with other frachises. Also seeing a lot of hate lately with V
Mainline games for me are 4 > 4a = 3 > 1
With V being so recent im sure SJ was too much :dead:

Lol the part about going for chaos because Neutral was trash
tbh tho, content wise, only differences are the part of killing The White, having to kill Lucifer like Law and the story changes so u wouldnt miss that much
Hope you enjoy 4a when you get around it The changes in gameplay compared with IV make it a lot more enjoyable, and thats with IV gameplay being pretty good already (with fixed smirking, Skill Affinity, Light and Dark magic changes, better Estoma and more)

yeah if there's one thing i can give the neutral ending, it's that you get a pretty clear idea of what all the other endings are since you fight all their final bosses though since i skipped a ton of sidequests, it had me wishing i went with the white ending while i was doing em though honestly i do think the white ending is the most interesting one narratively
love all the gameplay changes you mentioned, i think all of them are in smt5 too except smirking. light and dark not being dogshit skill affinities making it so not everyone has the same kit ill prolly enjoy the f*** outta this game no matter how good or bad the story is
and since we're ranking mainline games itt, so far id go 5>3>4. i do wonder if 3 only goes over 4 bc i played it first bc there is a lot that 4 does better objectively, but i think 3 is just a more cohesive product at the end of the day despite the more antiquated gameplay. if we factor in persona too ive only played P3 but i really liked it, idk if itd go above or below SMT5 though but its up there as potentially my favorite megaten game so far despite its own gameplay issues.
