I think I was in a bit in denial about this.
Always used to think he had help but he always had the most input, bar for bar.
Hearing he didn’t write Violent Crimes at all was a big blow.
Hearing the reference for Jesus Lord is the point at which I cease bringing up Kanye in the arena of great rappers. Great producers, great artists, sure.
Violent Crimes is ass, isn’t it weird how his s*** with writers is worse than the music he wrote himself?
Furthermore, who cares about being a great rapper when you can be in that all time discussion as far as influential / greatest music figures.

Agreed. It's really two different discussions. Kanye is beyond hip-hop, so he shouldn't be put in that box. On the other hand, if you only want to consider him as a rapper, then it's a different discussion. I still think he's one of the greats regardless, but I get the purist argument relating to mcs, and also the truth that Kanye is a producer first and foremost and therefore gets a pass. At any rate, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of his raps, including Violent Crimes, whether he wrote it or not. It's still the message he wants to get across and it feels like its his own.
It does but there was a reference done by someone, as you can hear in the LP1 version where the verse cuts between Kanye and the reference
Even tracks with Kanye tells aren’t necessarily all written by him, he either adds them or the writer thinks of Kanye in their head. Ant Clemons does a great job impersonating Kanye on the references for All Dreams Real and Cash to Burn
so theres no easy way to differentiate then, which isn't an issue. we can presume most of these versus imo are written/flown initially by ye with alot of punchins or various input from other artists.
the most notable verse to me that is not ye is off the grid, on his verse after fivio. but only the part where you can tell they are punch ins and hes playing catchup on the beat. shortly after the messi soccer line I believe its one take

kanye gets a pass because he can actually rap when he feels like it. and most peoples nostalgia or "peak ye" is at a time when kanye was very hands on with his bars.
we can all admit kanye isn't top 5 rappers,
but easily a top 5 artist.
Artists > rapper in tier of music
I feel you bro it is conflicting esp when we found out Pardison wrote all of Violent Crimes lmao
but I kinda get it, Kanye West the brand is in a sense just that, a brand. And its a brand that plays off the celebrity persona, plays off the headlines and what hes going through in his personal life. And he essentially has teams of hundreds of people contribute to his art. Even tho s*** might be ghostwritten the final product still feels authentically kanye and thats impressive
Every time this conversation happens it reminds me of when ye said that he is Shakespeare in the flesh... which is interesting because theres many theories that Shakespeare wasnt exactly one person, but a collective of the best writers/artists at the time all contributing to bodies of work that stood the test of time. In that sense Ye is kinda right
Source of the writer not being Kanye for violent crimes
whether he writes or not nowadays idc anymore but im not using anything TLOP-onwards as proof of his “musical genius”, even if the music is good. u can’t be a genius when somebody else is producing, writing and mixing for u. at that point ur just an A&R
it’s usually obvious when kanye is the main contributor on the verses
Post the songs that you think Kanye is the main contributor please
It's an unwinnable argument with people who think otherwise because you have to get into a different type of mentality. What he's doing now is not much different than what he did at the start of his career - gathering up the most important artists in the game and somehow crafting a cohesive album. He's just become more and more akin to a director rather than a musician over time, which is what people don't accept. It's still his overarching vision and he's the only one capable of executing it.
Also the notion that Kanye ruins his songs when he jumps on them is the same s*** that's always been spit since his first albums. He'll never be viewed as a great rapper, not even when he was a great rapper. And his "awfulness" has always been exaggerated. It's foolish. The man has unmatched charisma and pathos, I don't need perfection from him.
Broo so much truth
Lmao source is ye himself

Thats dopr
I couldnt care less
At the end of the day I want to hear Kanye's vision and voice. Somebody could rap the same exact verse, but I wouldnt be as excited, because of Kanye's persona and charisma
I can't imagine that this isn't a common occurrence tbh
No one writes all of their s*** all of the time.
Exactly, I think trump was the only president that didn’t have a ghostwriter

Loool
But I mean sometimes is so depressing when something leaks and it appears that he actually doesn't come up with some small stuff. Like with Violent Crimes.
I guess it's time to treat Kanye like a kpop band.
kanye been a kpop tier artist since graduation where tf u been
kanye been a kpop tier artist since graduation where tf u been
Waiting for a feat
This thread made me remember Ye reading the lyrics off his phone during performances in JIK era
kanye x lisa
I swear, there are times when I listen to kpop and wish this kind of Kanye would just jump in
So why rooga not credited as a writer on jesus lord?
Did he forget the names just like Steve Harvey?
Nah, actually a fan of Ye since like Cruel Summer era, but s*** started to get pretty bad just in recent years.
At first it was like: Ok, Kanye has some people in studio to come up with some themes, brainstorm some ideas .
Than it turned into: Ok, some dude wrote that line and some dude wrote another one.
Now it's: Ok, some dude is saying exact same words that Kanye said on the final song, and he also rapping from Kanye's perspective.
Actually, nowadays it's like: Wow, there is a chance that Kanye really wrote that dope verse, but I'm unsure.
I agree that it’s kinda frustrating...like with Yeezys I love the designs but knowing that Kanye himself didn’t design the full shoe kinda sucks
But at the same time, because he has a whole team around him, all these different ideas and perspectives lead to us getting beautiful music/products
He has the ideas more or less on what he wants and just needs a team to bring his ideas to life/make them better
