I think ppl should embrace both cultures. But some just shun one side to conform or even out of spite of the culture that shuns them.
Picking a side is wild corny. I’m black and Mexican and rock with both sides of my heritage heavy. I’m the best of both worlds.
seems like the way to go to me
Been thinking about this lately
My nephew who’s 10 years old is mixed (black and Mexican) but my sister’s bf wants to raise him as a “black man”. Her bf ain’t the father btw
But I hate dude tbh. All he teaches him is negative s*** about being black.
It’s like he wants him to forgot his Mexican side (me and my family)
My nephew even sees himself as black. All his avatars in video games look like regular black people. Not like how he actually looks. He has a dark skin tone of a Mexican and Mexican hair but you can tell he’s mixed.
He looks like Saint West
idk I just don’t want him to forgot all parts of his culture. About the family that actually took care of him (me and my parents)
Dam the bf is wrong for this
black people embrace me, whites dont
always feel out of place when visiting my white side of the family, that being said i really only met them at like 15 so theres that too
Once I turned 12, i noticed there's so much awkwardness I had around the white side of my family it was the same small talk convos over and over
Everyone saying "you should claim both" doesn't realize that's not easy unless your life was perfectly balanced around both. Your environment dictates who you relate to and the way you were raised. The way you look is how people will respond to you at the end of the day thats life, im grateful to see the best of both sides but you either fall more on one side or not and it's that simple
I have black features but I've never claimed my other half
I love them though but black power forever
