OP calling zoomers out-of-the-loop, but he prob hasn't heard the new Juice Wrld. Ignorance is ignorance regardless of timeframe.
I listened to every hip hop album
It's not destroyed, it's just completely different.
How do Xo tour life and life's a b**** fall into the same category in any manner.
that has less to do with generations than it has to do with the diversity of sounds within hip hop which has always existed

If we part further away in the next ten years, you're gonna have people singing calling themselves rappers, it's basically the way it's heading given that melody it's all that matters to that specific fanbase.

Bro read the title and thought he had one

idk if we can say that'll happen when that's only true if the general public continues to make hip hop pop.

both legendary songs

I think the term hip hop will become the same as urban.
They was tryna convince us that old town Road was hip hop.
Like how sway
Nope leave it to youngins, the dj akademiks, it will be completely done.
what we need is gate keepers
all genres eventually die. keeping hip hop how it was would have probably just made it die quicker and as a knock on effect made more traditional hip hop artists get less attention too.
There's still a lot of older school hip hop doing great: kendrick, pusha, griselda, hov etc. to name a few are all having great careers for their lane. And there's some newer rappers too like Megan putting out hit rap songs (whether you like her style or not).
i feel like all these younger rappers keeping hip hop the go to current sound for all pop culture helps the older artists still making hip hop too.

that makes sense
The 5 pillars of hip hop:
1. Graffiti
2. Breakdancing
3. Homophobia
4. Emceeing
5. Beatboxing
How about you let things evolve and change instead of living in the past
You know you can have two things at the same time right? S*** can change without totally losing its roots
That being said, some people ride on the new acts way too hard
I see what you're saying OP, modern popular rap or "trap" is so detached from what we would traditionally call Hip Hop why do we keep it in that umbrella? But I think since it still shares its foundations from Hip-Hop and it can trace its roots from there, I think it would be better to label it a subgenre. It's like how Metal is very different from Rock n Roll's early form but it still shares its roots/culture so it's still under that umbrella.
A lot of current music is “post-hiphop” tbh
S*** like Travis Scott/Roddy Rich melodic-heavy stuff, etc
At the same time tho there’s still a lot of traditional hip hop stuff going on like Griselda etc
This thread got me confused i thought the first replies were still screenshots from op
eventually, maybe.
some genres have little connection with their roots. r&b, for instance, signified danceable or jump blues with piano or guitar, which meant groups like the beatles and the who and the rolling stones were billed and promoted as r&b bands--you had fun stuff like keith richards and jimi hendrix writing on the same r&b number (don covay, mercy mercy)--but we see these artists in retrospect as rock.
wasn't until folks like stevie and michael experimented with the genre in the 70s, adding funk and disco and soul et al. that r&b molted and signified something else.
hip-hop could develop like that, but the dividing lines aren't clear yet.

Bro think he slick
Obv the new generation gonna take time to get put on to old s***. I didn't come out the womb knowing 90s hip-hop cause I was born in 96. It's only natural we go through a period where dudes seem ignorant.
Bro think he slick
Lmao it’s funnier when I say it IRL with a college white guy accent
@op i would’ve agreed with you tho, BUT
My friend brought up a good point once. He said the reason rock died is cuz it was constantly divided into subs which made them more like fads and a “moment in time” (not sure word I’m looking for)
Young dudes so detached from the old school and viseversa, the conversations on what hip hop should be gets extremely awkward
Had a Wu tang logo avy, some young dude on ktt asked what country its from
Some of yall so confused.
Make an old school subsection or something
No stop being cynical and a lot of the new generation listens to the past than you think
