i mean a few examples that immediately come to mind: "george bush doesn't care about black people" on national television, posting his recording contracts to instagram starting the dialogue on how the music industry is one of the most predatory industries on every marginalised group that participates in it, addressing the blatant racism within the fashion industry, starting uncomfortable dialogue about how the left end of the political spectrum feels it is entitled to the POC vote, etc. i completely understand that he approaches a lot of these delicate and complex issues like a f***ing bull in a china shop but you can't say that he hasn't been pushing back against major systems of power his entire career

Love to rail against all the major systems while also exploiting ppl and taking advantage of it

Kanye pushes for the system just as much if not more than he fights it. He's a hypocrite too because he only goes against it when he wants to benefit but he's happy to go along when things went his way

LMAOOOOO “starting the dialogue on how the music industry is one of the most predatory industries” you’ve completely convinced me your only source of any news at all is instagram.com/kanyewest

“addressing the blatant racism within the fashion industry” i mean at least you didn’t claim he started this dialogue but this has been well documented & called out since long before Ye got involved in that industry

“the left end of the political spectrum” Joe Biden is a communist unironically type beat

also, he’s apologized for the George Bush thing multiple times & has said he regrets it

nothing about my points are funny or deserve laughter from you, i'm simply presenting my point of view and trying to share it with others

-the music industry IS one of the most predatory industries, i know this from firsthand experience as i am a full time musician fresh out of college paying for all living expenses / student debts off of streaming royalties that are constantly being further and further diminished by corporate disregard for the independent creative

if you believe that me thinking a man has a genuine point means that my only source of news is his instagram page, you are proving my entire line of thinking in my original post as correct

no s*** the things kanye said are so stupid, uninformed and can cause genuine damage. it's a real shame that a Prince / Warhol / Beatles / Bowie level artist and icon is so unapologetic about ruining his generation defining legacy

BUT - lots of "do as i say, not as i do" going on right now.

the talent agency CAA that dropped kanye from their roster in response to this situation is factually proven to have aided harvey weinstein in arranging the private meetings where he would conduct his abuse. but, once a controversial black man uses WORDS, not actions, they kick him to the curb?

adidas has every right to drop Ye. but i think its complete bullshit that they want to drop kanye and be all noble while simultaneously saying "we'll continue to sell yeezy designs without his name on it". so, you don't condone the things the man says, but you DO condone the way his designs can line your pockets?

twitter has every right to remove a man encouraging anti-semitism which is against their rules - makes sense. but why do they currently allow Suhail Shaheen (top Taliban spokesman) to actively use his official account with almost 700k followers - the taliban believe in the forceful prosecution of all Jewish people in the arab world.

don't even get me started on how all of these capitalists, social media infographic-ass-trends and the "who can hold the most social currency" holier-than-thou mentality of western culture is ALWAYS in favor of mental health education and awareness - except when Kanye is involved.

if headlines came out today "ed sheeran has manic episode, says he hates black people in incoherent string of racist tweets - has been purposefully avoiding his prescribed bipolar medications for 2 years", the amy schumer's and gigi hadid's of the world would be posting "Praying for Ed. Mental health matters, I hope he finds the care he needs right now." type bullshit right now on their instagram stories

have the man experience ramifications for irresponsibly abusing one of pop-culture's largest voices? fine, actions should absolutely have consequences. but it really rubs me the wrong way when all these already predatory institutions and societal norms throw all their circumstantial tolerance out the window when a nuanced conversation about mental illness and censorship appears. this situation is being handled so beyond poorly and hypocritically by all parties involved (kanye included).

    EDIT:
some people in the thread are taking my ed sheeran a***ogy too literally - i'm trying to make the point that if you put a much more palatable face on the front lines of a major controversy (a white one, perhaps), it would go down with much more empathy and cautiousness than this. all of the major systems kanye has been going against publically for years saw the golden opportunity to wipe him off the map and they are taking it

Best take I’ve seen on this anywhere online yet

Tired of dudes correlating far-right attitudes with mental illness. Time to stop giving empathy and start kicking them to the curb

People with bipolar have spoken about how the illness, if left untreated, can deteriorate the brain and make the person believe things they wouldn’t have previously agreed with

you know what i mean though. place any wholesome celebrity who is well liked by the status quo into this position and society would have totally taken the "their illness is not their fault" route

Racism is treated a LOT more seriously here in America Lmfao I don’t know where you from but open racism is the kiss of the death here (as it should be)

    How.

If you think somebody saying something in mania, is the same as someone saying normally, you just need to do a bit of research. You’re diminishing how serious real anti semitism is by being prejudiced against those with mental health issues in the face of opposing scientific evidence.

That doesn’t make his months of verbal rhetoric, parroting, and actions any less disgusting at all though.

You’re saying that George Floyd conspiracy s*** was him just being manic too?

Medical News Today: "Remember, someone in a manic episode can say strange or nonsensical things to you while in the episode. Be mindful that it is the mania causing this."

if you think that someone with an untreated psychological condition who is surrounded by yes men and under a 24/7/365 microscope the entire planet is viewing deserves no empathy i don't know what to tell you

He has literally pushed away all non yes men.
    It. Is. His. Own. Fault.

It has been heightened by mental illness but this is HIS fault,

Yes it does. You need to educate yourself on Bipolar disorder before making these wrong statements. Do you actually think this is equivalent to real prejudice? The George Floyd conscipracy stuff is 100% mania.

What you’re doing right now is actually what OP is saying would hypothetically happen if someone like Ed Sheeran did something similar.
