I mean, like all media and pop culture in general.

When i was a kid it was the magazines that were corrupting little girls’ views on beauty

@SKYKILLA just said the most but he's right, "cartoon looking physical traits", that's what it is.

    It's just bad looking.

they just want attention and are trying to break into that instagram model crowd. if you want dudes at clubs to buy you drinks and hit on you fine, but sometimes they're probably thinking the same s*** im thinking - pump and dump

im keeping an eye out for different things if im looking for a serious relationship with a girl

It has always been like this plastic surgery is just more normalized and common

Dolly Parton literally got implants to conform

They aren't told to fix these things, they make the personal choice
It's the same thing just in a different era

    webmd.com/depression/news/20201214/too-much-social-media-time-could-raise-risk-of-depression

theres tons of research on this. ive seen a graph of the explosion of young kids specifically feeling less than and depressed because of social media that has came out in the last 10-15 years. its not 100% correlated to strictly beauty standards, but its a major factor

That's a good point. It's not worth it with some of these women.

truth is studies like this are great and I'm familiar and all but it doesn't matter because it won't be changing, sure we can identify it but who cares

    This is the new norm

It isn't good and maybe it's worse than older generations but it is what it is in the end

I feel bad for young people. truly for this sole reason. You grew up only knowing a world with social media and it honestly screwed up the perception of everything.

i think just by talking to them for a few minutes and asking a few questions you can get a quick idea what they're about. if all you're looking for is s***and a FWB type of situation, then being attracted to the girl physically is really all you need.

if you want anything deeper and more complex then that, thats where a lot of these girls fall short. i would never seriously date a girl thats flaunting around on social media, but thats just my opinion.

This is also complicating because we talk about mental health more now, doctors are more apt to label it

thats the point of the thread, to discuss what social media and these beauty standards are doing to effect people and how its unhealthy

always interesting to think about where we are headed

That's a fair enough reason. Some people just have terrible personalities too.

its not like in 2011 we decided that mental health all the sudden matters

i agree the conversation of anxiety and depression is much more common now, but the correlation of these social media sites and depression in young people always staring at their phones is very obvious

it can impact it, if you're told you have a chronic depressive disorder and you're 17 you might start to feel hopeless and it can make it worse

    there are tons of variables
