As far as on the individual level it depends on what situation any given country is in but organizing around certain issues like many people itt do (tenant organizing among other things) is a good step

Ideally (magically) it would be nice to have a mass party that espouses and communicates popular socialist principles to the masses and works to establish that form of government but the US isn’t at this critical point yet, even though there are serious contradictions that communists should be exploiting and exposing (wealth inequality being akin to the gilded age, things being increasingly unaffordable due to the ridiculous power of capital and so on)

socialist party + mass movement + some other variables that aren’t necessarily there at the moment

some of that is education but of course we can look at what succeeded and what failed but also recognize what the current moment needs and not cling to certain outdated aspects, a lot of marx lenin and maos work still speak to this day regardless

This idea that communism is only destined for failure against the capitalist institution is funny because the movement isnt even 200 years old and only found its first material successes 100 years ago

Tons of liberal bourgeois movements failed before the onset of the larger scheme of private capitalism and post-aristocracy. It took like 3-400 years of feudal conflict before the Industrial Revolution actually entrenched capitalism as the new mode of production

And even then the French and German revolutions showed us that liberal movements could still fall to larger legacy forces at hand
