I absolutely HATE going to bookstores and seeing this s*** on the shelves. There are so many disgusting, idiotic books no one (but everyone!) reads

I just feel like this is an ed book you would find in the political section akin to something like this
Gulag is can be used as an over-sensationalized word. It's important to read about the history of what happened, but basing all your knowledge from a book from some dude who was a traitor against the state, or an American journalist or what have you probably is a no go, cause they have an agenda of "communism bad! always leads to gulags!"

Thanks, I've seen that book in my local bookstore and had no idea what it was and was surprised by the reaction here.

Yeah dude by all means educate yourself on the topic. Would try to aim for more neutral, scientific historical books. While searching just know that it's an "information war" just like anything else, since it's such a controversial topic.
Ew reddit, but /r/communism and /r/communism101 has decent posts on it
These articles are OK, talk directly about that book. Sorry for linking articles about such a pro-communist website but these are the only folks who would even debunk the book in the first place.

No worries about that I literally read every post itt and visit most of the links even when the stuff is way out of my depth, I was just interested in why the book had a bad rep.
Gonna check out the links in a bit, thank you
