so they never got their money back for cruel summer?

they took some of his yeezus and Pablo money for it but they only took like $500k of Pablo and $1m of yeezus

they still see it as a distribution obligation as of 2016 so I would assume they still have costs on the books that they can take from it

or at least they will get a significant amount of the royalties from a release

If I’m on the label I’m not taking any of the advance money they try to give for the album. You already in the hole before the album comes out.

take what you need! if you need studio time, equipment etc then go for it
but view it as a loan cause thats what it is

Need Queen Taylor to reach out. Her battle likely played a part in Kanye going down this route.

Imagine Taylor and Kanye working together not as friends but as MUSICIANS and ARTISTS to fight for their masters. Fight for everyone’s.

is it possible to tell from these contracts and sales data how much ye made off of his music throughout his career?

Did he really have to make 52 albums or

im not sure where thats from lol

the longest contract obligation I could see in there was the original roc-a-fella contract which had label-side options for up to 7 albums

I might have missed something tho

    TYSM OP

Dont see the issue here. Some sus stuff about the Yeezus/TLOP masters. But looks like the label isnt even making a profit on his albums, just trying to make their money back.

    Is recording that expensive

    I guess it depends right
like he spent two weeks there so flights for his team, studio/hotel space, food, alcohol etc is probably a fair amount

then equipment if he had to buy any
maybe that includes features and/or producers that he had to hire

it can rack up pretty quickly - s*** a Drake feature alone runs 7 figures

Yeah before the thread was locked I told someone that I couldn’t confirm the validity of the 52 album deal, as it was just running rampant on twitter and in the thread itself

Also makes sense that his contracts not as good as Drakes, he probably doesnt come close to the amount of money Drake would bring in

Fair enough I was doubting if a feature would be listed there as well, that could increase the costs pretty quick. Bot overal flights, staying and renting equipment would be a little expensive to be half a milli for 2 weeks

mmmm it would be a very inaccurate figure but im sure someone could get an estimate

the issue is that some of these contracts are incomplete and sales data is often incomplete. these also dont specify costs for the label for a lot of this stuff so its hard to say when he would've started to recoup losses

I think its safe to assume that most of his money music wise is from advances
the rest is probably the stuff he could actually profit off like touring and merch

I mean I doubt he'd just do one for anyone it seems like he wants to like the person and like someone above said he might want royalties instead or he'd just do it for free

but yea feature prices are insane
