If drake can rap about being a mob boss he can rap about anything

What would this do? Why do you want to hear drake talk about social issues?

Idk man. I feel like black art deserves a break from being about trauma/informative. I feel like other parts of black culture like what brings us joy, what problems outside of race specific ones do we face, and the lesser known parts of our history should take importance in our music, movies, and shows. We already live through this stuff, our pain shouldn’t be the only thing we’re ever rewarded to talk about, especially when it’s not our responsibility to fix it.

    lol true

op is like getting mad at a gay character who doesn't always talk about d*** in the ass

And your main focus is tryna harm us?”
Man brought up social issues during his beef with Meek

    are you f***ing braindead
    op said

"But after all the s*** that happened in this country last year, i would expect the biggest rap album of the year to have at least one lyric mentioning or addressing what occurred."

Are you braindead? This still doesnt explain anything you said nor refute that lmao.

Unless you mean you dont want to hear Drake specifically not talk that way since he seems to you waited too long. My b if thats what yoi meant, cuz i wasnt personally referring to Drake so i was confused.

That i can get your point, but i personally still disagree to an extent.

Good for you, i didnt ask. I am as well which doesnt mean anything.

Yeah, that rap does exist, & as i said "just that he wants a more prominet voice talking or related to ANY issue."

I dont see how having a song revolved around issues suchas slavery, n especially police brutality which is till a really real issue, is an issue.

These things you mention do exist, but there is still a lot of pain & wrong doing going on lol.

I never said an artist should be forced to sing about issues nor if their catalog doesnt involve any, then theyre pretending.

I said only wanting "fun" music and thinking "substance" music is old hat is what is prentending everything is all good happy, which it isnt.

Lol fam I think you’re misreading the energy of what I’m saying. I’m not coming at you or OP in the slightest, just defending the idea that some people aren’t like y’all/don’t want the same things and that’s just as okay. I think maybe we speak a lil differently that our tone is being misconstrued through text so ima tell you to have a blessed day. Thanks for the discussion thus far ✊🏾

Quadra do have a point about specific posters lol. No1 cares what a suburban black person has to say about racial issues because their experiences are insiginificant in comparison to someone growing up in the projects. a Gambino or Drake type wouldn't have an impact on conscious rap even if it was quality. Yall would know this, if well you know...

    this is true

Whippey, TheGarden and 02Shaq the biggest bad faith posters on here

Drake is a competent storyteller. Actually a pretty good storyteller. The fact that he hasn't incorporated socially conscious lyrics into his music is pretty disappointing. Especially knowing the bad s*** that goes on in some of the hoods in Toronto.

Despite Drake spending most of his career repping Toronto I can't say I ever came out of a Drake album knowing anything about Toronto. Besides that Drake comes from Toronto.

I think a bigger question is why do folk wanna hear Drake talk about being a mob boss and shooters? What does that do?

    100%

Black on black crime is a myth that FOX news folk use as a talking point to distract. I can explain why but it’ll be a long ass paragraph you won’t want to read

I actually see both sides of the argument. I use to criticize Drake for not speaking on issues but it’s like that’s just not his lane and you can’t force someone to tap into that bag. It’ll have to come naturally. But who knows, Drake still got plenty of years left, he may surprise us and go left field later on towards the end of his career.
