I mean he is legit black and jewish
Yea it wouldn't work, the Hebrew Israelites would say he's an Edomite not a real Jew
The only time Drake made a political or cultural statement that I can remember, is when he explained why he wore black face after the story of adidon
I think you're misunderstanding my point. My only point is that as worldly as Wayne's music is when he was at his peak and the world was going through s*** he addressed it. I'm not talking about his overall character. I don't think Drake has to do anything but it's dope when the biggest and best artist venture into that sphere
I know but that's not really Drake's lane.
It'd be one thing if Drake was rapping like J Cole then "switched it up" when it was convenient. I'd agree with you 100% if that were the case.
But when we already know that Drake's not a conscious type of rapper and he prefers to help Black causes outside music, it just seems unwarranted.
he made a whole album about it and some of yall called it boring or "no one plays it outside"
Yea but then he said some weird conservative Republican s*** about black on black crime on the same album so idk.
And anyway what makes any of you think the culture now is the same as the 80s or 90s lol
the way papis angels are foaming at the mouth itt says enough
The only time Drake made a political or cultural statement that I can remember, is when he explained why he wore black face after the story of adidon
Yep
And we know why he did that
So did Pac and Ye
"Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, is an American actor, comedian, writer, and musician. He was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, a heavily populated white suburban neighborhood and his family was the only black family in the area. "
Tupac grew up in baltimore with a black panther upbringing
Kanye has black panther upbringing and didn't grow up in a predominantly white neighborhood + chicago has gang ties everywhere
Oh brother, believe me I’m very educated on this so let me be explicit in what I mean: by “problems outside of race” I mean general human ones that don’t get uplifted. Like depression and mental health and finding yourself being relegated to “white stories.” Like movie wise, I’d love to see a black rom com. Or a black version of Garden State, etc. Our “pain” stories are usually either about slavery or police brutality. There’s so much outside of that that people rarely look to black voices/writers for
Also, I don’t think choosing not to talk about certain issues automatically means you’re pretending everything is okay 🤷🏾♂️ It just means you have other things you’d like to talk about in your art
Good for you, i didnt ask. I am as well which doesnt mean anything.
Yeah, that rap does exist, & as i said "just that he wants a more prominet voice talking or related to ANY issue."
I dont see how having a song revolved around issues suchas slavery, n especially police brutality which is till a really real issue, is an issue.
These things you mention do exist, but there is still a lot of pain & wrong doing going on lol.
I never said an artist should be forced to sing about issues nor if their catalog doesnt involve any, then theyre pretending.
I said only wanting "fun" music and thinking "substance" music is old hat is what is prentending everything is all good happy, which it isnt.
Yea but then he said some weird conservative Republican s*** about black on black crime on the same album so idk.
Acknowledging black on black crime is conservative s***?
God damn you niggas get stupider with each passing post
Only way Drake gonna speak on something is if it directly effects him
As he should. We don’t need everybody to have a voice.
The only time Drake made a political or cultural statement that I can remember, is when he explained why he wore black face after the story of adidon
Is Uzi going to be conscious
No1 cares about drake seriously talking about black struggles unless they are simply a hater. Drake isn't even viewed as an authentic black person to a lot of people because:
1. He's from the suburbs
2. He's jewish
This isn't new. If you black you know this. There's a perception within the AA community about who is really black and who isn't.
People care more about a street nigga or someone like Nas talking about the black struggle because they come from the black struggle
Nah black people DEFINITELY claim drake cause he actually associates himself us.
LOGIC on the other hand
we had all 2020 to do this, im not tryna hear about more black trauma in 2021/2022
Literally what does a year have anything to do with anything weirdo.
Reality doesnt stop just because you want it to.
No one is saying that should be the only music that should exist either.
Just like the same people that keep pretending covid is over n old news when it keeps getting stronger than ever 💀
I distinctly remember when SFTB dropped how the entire internet was in an uproar about Drake being a middle classed mixed kid from Toronto and not knowing anything about true struggles. Couldn’t imagine what the reception would be if he tried to tap in to something like OP is referring to. Damned if you do damned if you don’t in this world sometimes
If drake can rap about being a mob boss he can rap about anything
Drake is a competent storyteller. Actually a pretty good storyteller. The fact that he hasn't incorporated socially conscious lyrics into his music is pretty disappointing. Especially knowing the bad s*** that goes on in some of the hoods in Toronto.
Despite Drake spending most of his career repping Toronto I can't say I ever came out of a Drake album knowing anything about Toronto. Besides that Drake comes from Toronto.
