I don’t know how to explain it but someone know how there’s 11 snare hits before the beat loops?
You can tell that the beat loop extends into where a normal beat would’ve already looped around
Like normal it’s 1, 2, 3, 4 (repeat) but this song makes it sound like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1/2 bar (repeat) really tho u don’t notice the 1/2, it just keeps going to 11 and comes back around
Apparently it's not 11/4, but three measures of 4/4, a measure of 2/4, then two more in 4/4, which adds up to 22 beats, but still isn't 11/4
Weird choice either way, also your poat made me watch the whole thing again and man Hey Ya is just one of the best things ever, reminds me of all the good parts of the early 2000s
What are some tracks you enjoy that feature rare time signatures? Especially in genres that don't normally use them
This Stereolab track is gorgeous, electronic lounge pop in 5/4
!https://youtu.be/lV0ylsWIrJwthis is one of my favorite songs of all-time, thanks for sharing it here
Any time signature can be transcribed into any other time signature you just have to move the notes around (don’t tell anyone this secret)
I still don’t know what a time signature is
Just means how many beats in a measure (phrase) of music. A Waltz is is traditionally in 3/4 or 9/8, think about how it goes ONEtwothree ONEtwothree
Zappa would use this for an audition of prospects who had potential . Many failed with Frank watching them, a few did not.

It's actually a mixed time signature 4/4 with that cool/weird 2/4 break

2 beats for 4 bars? i think I get it now
insert soundgarden and tool tracks here
a time signature denotes the number of note value that one beat is equal to (numerator)
and the number of beats make up one bar (denominator)
so 4/4 time signature says 4 note values make up a beat, and 4 beats make up a bar
kinda but not quite
number on top denotes how many beats in a bar
number on bottom denotes what kind of note counts as a beat. it's not a fraction just for s***s n giggles, it's bc the /4 in 3/4 is literally one fourth, or a quarter. as in, quarter note. any time signature with 4 on the bottom treats quarter notes as one beat. if the time signature has /2, a half note is one beat. etc.

its the other way around lmao
