someone putting out some bad music doesn’t hurt their legacy or overall artistry no matter how you try to flip it, if you make music for a long enough time, you’re inevitably going to put something out below standard, longevity is massively overrated for evaluating how good an artist is, and it’s primarily driven out of looking at music like it’s football or some s***

how do we evaluate artists like James Brown who were absolutely revolutionary for funk/soul, but weren’t particularly great album artists? how about Grateful Dead who are mostly known for their amazing live performances over their albums? viewing music one dimensional like this doesn’t work man

Ok good for them? This is a music forum so we discuss the totality of music and that includes looking at an artists body of work to evaluate them. That has nothing to do with stats or sports.

Great bands have put out trash and been forgotten throughout history and their bad work is what’s remembered. This is ruining a legacy. When your bad work is what sticks in your fans’ heads more than the good.
