Foolish Pride
Idk if Eminem ruined his legacy but his recent output definitely changed it. Like the public perception of him is completely different now. Pre-recovery Eminem was the king of controversy who could stand in hip hop circles cuz he was a good rapper. Now I feel like his whole shtick is that he’s a motivational rapper who’s super focused on the art of rapping. I just don’t think when Eminem was in his prime you had the annoying fan base insisting he was “real hip hop”.
I guess what I’m trying to say is his legacy now is “the super technical rapper trying to keep the soul of hip hop alive” when before it was “popular rapper who shakes up pop culture and conservatives hate”
Houdini inspired me for this post lol so heres my list of terrible songs that keep em from being a true goat at times. Always been a pretty big fan, but im no stan and will always call out the garbage. Houdini just felt forced and the lyrics were trash and the flow was mehhh. I swear paul and the label is forcing him to make this stuff. I just think Houdini could've been so much more. Would've been nice for a eerie more serious beat. I know hes just trying to go back to his original formula of releasing the goofy first single, but back then he could flow better and his lyrics were more funny and controversy. This new s*** is for high schoolers i guess lol

The fact you made this thread and didn't include this song is mind boggling
“I'd rather make “Not Afraid 2” than make another mothafuckin' “We Made You””
Makes another “We Made You”
I know it was already mentioned itt but Fack one of the worst songs of all time.
I get it's a joke song but it's hella gross and weird,
and cringe like why make this?
Grown man talking about shoving gerbils up his butt.
Fack really might be the worst hip-hop track ever
Fack really might be the worst hip-hop track ever
Fack is a perfect example of why “complex” rhyme schemes are not always all that
I think for every good artist Eminem inspired like Kendrick or Tyler, you get a lot of people (YouTube rappers especially) that try to emulate the worst aspects of his music. Overtly technical bs, fast raps, or take the ironic elements of misogyny/depravity and used it as an actual platform for their seriously s***ty views on women. Especially dudes like Tom MacDonald who compare their “plight” and “controversy” as an 2001 Eminem situation.

Framed was the gem of revival, sounded like relapse and the chorus was hilarious, sounded like he was falling off a cliff screaming FRAAAAAAAAMMMED
So Far is actually one of my favorite Em songs from the last decade, it’s like the funny version of The Way I Am
I know it was already mentioned itt but Fack one of the worst songs of all time.

Ironically I think Rap God was the beginning of Em making me groan
The shift in focus from using really great rapping to get a point or joke across to just using really great rapping to show how great of a rapper you are was gross
